Only had the CRD a week now and I'm allready planning power mods. I guess it comes from having the Dodge!!! Anyways, I decided to go ahead and pull the muffler, gut the cat and put in a muffler delete pipe. Now I'm looking into power adders. All the research I've done shows that all fueling boxes available are pressure only with most doing some sort of boost fooling also (if it plugs into the MAP sensor). I'm looking more for power increase, and any xtra econmy that goes along with it would only be a bonus. I'm wanting to hear from those who allready have personal experience with power adders and how they performed.

Here's the modules I've found:

TS MP8
DR Perf. Predator
Edge Trail Jammer
BD X-box
Diablo Power Puck
Painless Striker I & II

I love my jammer. It stays on setting one most of the time. Setting two is for when I don't have the kids in the car.

Throttle response is great. Runs circles around my V8 commander. No economy change.

Go to their site and look at the SIIIe. I have it and love it. 90HP/150 ftLbs... 12 power levels and a fuel economy one which does work. Got about 2 mpg better mixed driving.

The only one that has the potiential to do more than fool the computer is Inmotion - you have to send the ECM to California and they reprogram it -

http://www.inmotionusa.com/jeepgraphs.html

But no one gives you real data about what they do - so you're running on the companies reputation.

I tend to have more confidence in Edge - but I've heard about them from more than just CRD.

I have both SP's latest and an IM Stage II ECU. You can see my IM dyno results in another thread. SPs latest with the stock ECU seems similar (seat of the pants) to the IM on its own (no dyno yet). IM plus SP was tried only briefly (how do you spell wheelspin?) because EGT gauge isn't hooked up yet and I don't want to melt the turbo.

It's hard to imagine using both together for towing, so we may be willing to let the SP go, but we'll have to see in practice.

Just get a bigger turbo!!!! I'm also trying to track down a shop that can upgrade the injectors. I think I would rather have 25-50hp that way than from a box..........well, at least until the warranty runs out.

2Mop,

I put the stock ECU back in before making a trip to the dealer for warranty work. A used one to send to IM to clone was about $150.

What's up doc? I have read and been told that each injector has to be numerically mated to the ECU in order for them to function, but I have never had to replace an injector so I don't know first hand.. By swapping out ECUs did you have any problem with that issue? I wonder if the computer/injector syncing is just a myth perpetuated by a dealer who would like to get $1000 bucks for a half hour injector job?

Nurse,

Perhaps for optimal metering, but people swap ECUs all the time and most rigs have EFI these days (NASCAR still has carbs) and there does not seem to be an obvious problem. Both ECUs seem to fire cleanly in the CRD. IM (clone Stg II)just makes more power and may get 1-2 MPG more when driven sedately.

How much is a spare ECM for our CRD's I wonder? How hard is it to swap them out? If done this way, the Jeep would never be down, and when warranty work calls, there would be no way for the shop to know if you've done anything to it.

I no longer worry about do nothing dealers. I want to enjoy my Jeep so I do what I want. If I have to take mine to the dealer, (I rather get root canal) :? I leave all mods in place and tell them to leave them the alone. :) When one mechanic asked me why I had the disconnected MAF, (Billing, MT for a/c repairs they couldn't fix) I responded that if he knew how the diesel engine worked then he wouldn't have to ask.

Mod and enjoy your CRD and if the dealer gives you a hard time, tell them to kiss this --------> @

If the new injector trim code isn't programmed the ecm just defaults to the previous code. Not a real big deal unless you want maximum efficiency.

I have the Power Box CR. Seems to add some get up and go. More black smoke when WOT. There has been little to no mileage improvement.

Yep, black smoke means the engine is over fueling, so you can except no mpg gains. Dr. Performance also makes the “Workhorse Module,” which did increase the fuel economy and power in my Cummins. I’d imagine it would do the same in the KJ CRD.

Black smoke is only bad if it never clears up once the rpm's get going and load% decreases. A slight, grey haze trailing behind you once it revs up and gets going is perfectly ok. Solid steady black is bad!

ya the black smoke clears up after initial WOT but some of the time the cloud is pretty impressive.

I wish the Power Box CR had push button settings but it just has a set screw. That makes keeping records of the setting a must so you know where you are at in case you want to turn the power up or down. Over all not a bad unit.
