Can you describe the noise it is making, when it makes it, etc. Also how many miles do you have and what service has been done?

Oil in the intake should not be there but WILL most likely be there on an unmodifed KJ CRD. You can fix that problem. Read up on the site and you will learn a lot and most likely find all the answers you need.

Couldn't the oil in the intake tube be from the turbo? I used to get that alot in my previous vehicle (that which must not be mentioned). I had to install a catch can for it, because it was killing the life on my CAI filter.

Not to highjack the thread, but can someone tell me if that happens to all turbos, or not on the diesels?

oil in the intake is most likely from the stupid ccv system, turbocharged engines DO inhale a little deeper than a naturally breathing model. ;)

For the original poster, I would STRONGLY suspect a fuel delivery issue. When was the last time your filter was changed?

Wal-mart sells (along with most parts places) a cheap Purolator paper-in-clear-plastic filter element. Get one of these (in the larger tube size) for a temporary test. Inside your engine bay, on the driver's side, on the firewall, is your diesel fuel filter. It's the big can with the black button on top, and two electrical plugs pointing toward the front of the car.

There are only two rubber hoses connecting to this. Unplug the one closest to the CENTERLINE of the car, and connect this to the side of the filter with the big plastic disc. This is the filter OUT line, to the engine. The other rubber line goes on the other side.

Now: Starting the engine will take a little bit of effort, but it WILL pull the fuel from the line. The engine should start up almost instantly the first time, but will probably stall again almost immediately. Continue cranking in 5-second bursts, pausing for 2-3 seconds between. It should only take about 3 cycles, and the engine will start again. The little filter will now be full of fuel. Watch it to see if there are any tiny bubbles entering from the tank-side, as this will indicate an air leak somewhere.

Drive with this filter for a few days, and see if your mileage changes. This will (at worst) tell you nothing at all, but it will eliminate a possible cause. But I believe your mileage will go up a lot, indicating a plugged filter, or possibly a weak pump. How many miles are on the car?

Well - the filter might help isolate a fuel contamination issue -
but for someone who's not used to working on engines - to cut a fuel line on a vacuum fuel system -
sounds like an invitation to air leak problems and a build in excuse for the dealer to deny warranty repairs.

POP
The oil in the intake is a designed in problem - it's from the CCV - it's bad long term but it's not a failure - it's the design. Dealer won't fix it - the owner has too, check EHM or Provent in the Tech section.
probably need to look at cleaning the MAP sensor

your best bet on a dealer is not Jeep - this was the only diesel they sold and they were never trained - they're know less than you do - they probably never seen a diesel before.
find a dealer who sells/services Cummins or Sprinter vans - they're Chrysler but their techs should know diesel.

(MNKK - Gas turbos and Diesel turbo have different seals - gmctd explained it - Gas has to deal with low pressure - diesel doesn't - different seal allows it to spool faster)

That's kind of what I thought. But like I said. I am not a diesel guy. Driven some, never worked on one though.

How clean is your air filter?

I would check for air in the fuel line and make sure your turbo intake hoses are not split open and leaking air. If the turbo hoses (deteriorated from soaking in oil) have split open the air is leaking out and your vehicle will be really slow and make a loud sound under boost (the air escaping). If this is bad enough, this should throw a code.

Another thing to check for is air in the fuel. This makes it gutless and slow to accelerate, also makes it shudder and shake sometimes.
