Post subject:  What's Up With Fuel Prices?

Last week, in the Kansas City area, RUG was running $3.299 and ULSD was running $3.799. In the last couple of days, RUG has dropped down to $3.099!!!, but ULSD went up ten cents to $3.899. It is so strange to me how diesel changes. I often see a difference of 30 cents per gallon for diesel within a 3-4 mile distance. Has anyone else seen similar trends in the past few days?

Diesel prices tend to drop the most in Autumn to a year long low. Inventory is higher and home heating oil hasn't ramped up yet. Prices do seem to fluctuate much more with diesel than gas. I've seen as low as $3.98 and high as $4.59 this week. Honestly I think it just depends on the station and how much fuel they actually sell some stations in town sell a ton and seem to have lower prices some probably barely sell any and prices are always high. You see the same with gas in general, small mom and pop stations on a slow street can't compete with a big station on a busy corner or off the interstate.

this site has the most comprehensive explaination on heating oil/diesel fuel prices: http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/oog/info/gdu/gasdiesel.asp the one bs thing I still can't understand is why 11% of our (diesel) cost is refining still vs. 6% for gas; I know refinery's tweak to make as much gas as possible but USLD conversion has been complete for 2 yrs.....and refining diesel isn't that complex (that's why it was cheaper)

You getting RUG for 3.10, man. We were at 3.99 for 87 octane during the storm last week, I saw it drop to 3.72 today. Our Diesel is hanging around 3.89 right now.

Diesel just dropped to $3.99 in Ft Lauderdale and I am thrilled about it. I spent most of the first part of the year paying $4.89.

Now our RUG is down to 3.059, but ULSD has gone up to $3.999. I guess our diesel prices are average and our RUG prices are just incredibly low compared to the rest of the country. I just find it annoying that diesel has gone up 20 cents while gas has gone down 20 cents.

You also live in farm country!!! Every time this year starts harvest season whereby diesel demand in your and my part of the country spikes. Here at home, gas has slowly been going down, but diesel has shot up about 15-20 cents in the last 5days alone.

Just filled up ULSD 3.64
RUG was 3.09

I heard that there are still some offshore platforms down from Ike - so that's still having an effect.

Here, RUG is still sitting at $4/gallon. Cheapest I saw for ULSD was 3.89, up to 4.19.

If I get the phone call I expect this week, 3 weeks from then I plan to be working and living in Texas, and say goodbye to NC's crappy high fuel prices.
