I received a quote for the repairs to this dent from a panelbeater shop.

They don't want to repair but rather replace the hood, This would cost about the equivalent of 2000 USD.

They said that they couldn't repair the dent due to the fact that the hood is double paneled.

If i were to repair the dent using bodyfilla would i need to respray the entire hood or can a smallish area like this be painted and feathered in.

Whole hood should be resprayed.....however the affected area will need to be body-fillered, sanded, primered, then sprayed over.

I'f done right this means that the new paint will cover all the primer from the body work, and the new paint will get layed down over the majority of the old paint - meaning it should blend nicely out by the fenders where it counts.

In other words it's important to get the color matched perfectly otherwise i'll end up with it looking like this.........

It would be cheaper/easier/less time consuming to replace the hood.In the pic that damage due to where it is would be a royal pain to fix, even with all the needed tools.

A good place to ask this question is the forum at The Autobody Store: http://autobodystore.com/forum/index.php
Len Stuart is the owner and is very helpful.

Not quite, that paint is so far off it cannot even be blended, the idea is that even the best paint won't match between panels, so you usually blend it down into the nearby panels. So if you replaced the hood you would also want to blend the paint down the fenders.

Since the hood is going to be prohibitively expensive I think your best bet would be what I first said.

Okay then, why don't those who have dents in their Jeep post pics and a short story on how you got the dent.

Those who would like to participate in this thread, go and dent your Jeep.....

Every Hummer owner thinks ugly is cool

Another thing you could do is bolt on a turret mount, but check local ordinances if they allow and weapons to be hung on the mount.

Bolt an extra spare tire mount like the old Range Rover.

Then here is the creative idea, after you have made your hood butt @$$ ugly, some one will want to buy it, so sell it for more than what it costs to fix it the way you want it

New hood. As much as a hood is opened and closed, filler could crack.
