I'm starting to get a shudder when the torque converter locks up at 50mph. Also it shudders when I start to come to a stop. Has this been an air in fuel issue or torque converter issue in the past. Any help would be appreciated. Todd |

A good way to determine what you have is to define if you have a "shuDDer" or a "stuTTer". It sounds like you have is the shuDDer and that points to the TC exspecially with the "coming to a stop" part |

I had a shudder problem that was not fuel or torque converter related. It's the accelerate then hold speed manuever, with the torque converter already locked up. It would start 3-5 seconds after I got up to speed and could last indefinitely. It's an air flow control problem. It's helped (but not completely solved) with the ORM. |

I bled the fuel filter head, and there was not any air so I guess its a torque converter issue. I've taken it to the dealer twice and got the can't duplicate response. Mayber it will get worse before my powertrain warranty runs out. |

Take your CRD out and find a long hill where you can get the studder/shudder speed. Get up to the bottom end of that speed before the incline. When you push on the go pedal just enough to maintain lock-up on the TC it should start that wonderful shudder/studder. Practice this a few times so you can replicate on demand under the given conditions. Now take it to the dealer and ask the SM (Service Manager, or Sado Masochist as some of us may see things) to go on a ride with you so you can point it out. I also went through the trouble to video tape the shudder as further evidence. End result. I have had four TC's under warranty. The new TC will help matters for a few weeks then she gets back at it again. The have also tried to add a Friction Modifier to my Tranny Fluid, that did not help. Dealership wants to put a SC in there, but corporate won't authorize it due to legalities tied to liability on non-Chrysler parts. My opinion, they can continue to replace my TC until the warranty is up. When I hit that point I will have the SC TC and new tranny pump put in (this is all sort of a PITA, but I am going to get my warranty's worth of repairs on this one). Good Luck |

I also had a shudder feeling on the highway and also when I would decelerate to a stop. Turned out my rear u joint was dry and had to be replaced. Just a thought. I put one in that can be greased every oil change so it will never get dry again. |
