 Post subject: Strait Pipe and Painless StrikerI Installed!!!

Went to Midas and for $30 got the muffler delete/strait pipe done. When I got home later in the afternoon, my present from Summit with the StrikerI was sitting on the front porch. What was supposed to be a simple 10min install turned into almost 1hr. For some reason my KJ didn't come with a rubber grommet in the firewall as the directions stated. So I had to route it through the wiring harness gasket. Not bad, if it was easier to get to and could work 2 hands in there. So, when I was feeding the monitor cord through, the the gasket and plastic shell that clips it all in, popped out and seperated. After some fussing, yelling and cussin' I got it all back together, wired in and plugged up.

1st driving impressions are awsome!!! The sound out the exhaust is almost perfect music to my ears. The power added by the new Striker module is also great!!! The 2mods combined give the Libby all around great performance. I'll have pics posted here of the Module mounted in the cab along with the exhaust mods, as soon as the wife returns from work.

I want to see the MPG's..................................... Make sure the map sensor is cleaned out if you haven't already done so.

Well, I hope the exhaust works cause it looks horrendous.... IMO. Few minutes with a welder and it would have been sealed all nice and tight and would have looked so much cleaner. I would keep a close eye on that sealant stuff, I've seen it start falling off after a few mnths, especially as heavy as it looks.

LOL!!! That is welded pipe under there. Midas seems to like putting some kind of anti rust paste on the welds when they finish the job. As far as the bends in the pipe.........yeh, I was a little dissapointed, and I believe this could have been done with only 2 minor bends instead of the 4 it has. Oh well!, I wanted this mod more to see what it will sound like. I know of another shop who can do better work, but was in a bit of a hurry the other day and Midas was close and cheap. Besides, anything short of welding a plug in the exhaust stream has got to flow better than what came stock!!!!!!

Is there any advantage to running the pipe to the back? I was thinking that I would just put a turn down after the cat and call it good.

I would love to hear about the economy mode. I am running between 250 and 350 miles per week. The extra room over the Honda Civic is definitely costly.

After talking both with Painless and SP Diesel (the actual manufacture) both agreed that most customers report better mileage using levels 3-5. On pure, open highway/interstate they said the FE mode would outshine the rest of the power settings. However, seeing that most people do some kind of combo driving between city/suburban/rural/highway most would see a benifit from the added power of performance tunes. More power off the line from stops means you get up to speed faster and maintain that speed with less throttle input.
