Post subject:  Painless & SP Diesel Power Module Owners – BEWARE!!!

I have been comparing the Painless module and the SP Diesel modules and heads up – They are both the same. (In fact if you open up the Painless module you will see SP Performance marked on the circuit board).

Anyway I have a Painless module that one of the LOST Members is letting me check out for them but the wiring harness has had the wires (5 of them) pulled out of the connector that plugs into the module.
I contacted Painless 3 times, got three different stories on how they should connect (none matched what was left of the old connector). The last time the guy told me to contact SP Diesel as that is where they get them from! (They could not tell me any info on the wiring as they don’t have it).

I contacted SP Diesel 2 times on the phone and wouldn’t talk to me about it, but did tell me to email them. I did and waited week with no response, so that’s when I called the second time. I was directed to a different email and got an answer: “This issue should be handled through Painless, not us. I am sure they have offered to take the harness in and fix or repair or sell a replacement. This is how they do things.”
I emailed them back and told them that Painless TOLD me to contact YOU!
Their reply: “I would recommend you send it into them for service. We generally do not have customers self service.”

From this experience and especially if you paid the $450.00 for $50.00 worth of parts, I highly recommend that you DO NOT do business with either one! You get no help or tech support! But you do get to buy another one! If you do have problems, get your credit card out……..

I have the expensive spdiesel module. If you are looking at the module installed with the connector plugged in starting top to bottom... pink orange purple grey on the closest row then blue brown yellow green on the back row. Hope this helps out.

Thanks to all that have PM’ed me and now I have the right color wires in the correct holes.
Power level 5 is quite nice!
It’s really sad when you have to rely on help from the internet diesel Jeep forum instead of the manufacturer. Really really sad.
On the other hand, it must be really nice to have a business where you don’t give a rat’s stupid about customer service in this economy. Must be a painful side job for them that they don’t want to do anymore.

Thanks again for all the help and now let the testing begin!

Was that a reference to spdiesel or Chrysler's support for the CRD?

I'm affraid a lot of US companies have fallen into this thinking including Chrysler's support of our "test market" CRD's

...HAVE A NICE DAY

All the module does is lie to the ECM about boost pressure and rail pressure, determine the mA draw of the ECM for these two circuits and with the 5 volt signal the resistance can be calculated.

I bought a used SP diesel module from somebody on this forum about 2 years ago. On arrival there was something wrong with the wiring harness.

I contacted SP diesel and asked them if I could buy a harness separately. Then they told me to just send the entire unit in and that they would be replacing the entire unit with a brand new one. Isn't that awesome customer service?

I never had a problem with Painless myself. I think alot of bad service experience has to do with who it is you get on the phone. I have noticed more times than not, if I call many times in a row, each time getting someone different, I get a different answer and/or response. I fully believe its lack of training and personal drive in the people you talk to on the other end. Same reason you usually get better service at a 4star resteraunt than some podunk national fast food chain. Quality of training and employees!!!
