It's been one year for me since I cleaned the MAP sensor and it is completely covered in "black soot". I have a Provent, which does not seem to help as far as the MAP sensor is concerned.
It looks like a 6 month interval cleaning would be better. Is there anything that would help extending that period?

I check mine every 10 000KM's. The first time it was plugged full of carbon. At the same time as the first cleaning I did the EHM and have also been running offroad with the ORM. Since then every 10 000KM check it has been virtually like new, still able to see the yellow coating on the sensor bulb with only a flec or two of soot. I still pull it and give it a blast of carb cleaner just to be safe. Time wise would be about every quarter, about 3 months.

I do it at every oil change. It takes about as long as letting all the oil drain from the block and is easy to remember if it's part of the routine.

Provent removes the oil component - SEGR removes the soot component - try it.......you'll like it

Even with both in place, there's still a little residual (granted, less each time) in there. I suppose there will reach a point of diminishing returns, but I'm not there, yet.

I cleaned it for the first time at 61K miles. Made zero impact on anything.

It appears those are a couple of the key items required to make this car right. This fact is finally beginning to be burned into my feeble brain.

Right now, I clean both mine and my wife's every few months or so as a matter of course. It won't make a noticeable difference in performance unless the thing is clogged to the point of interfering with performance.

I clean mine at every oil change as well. Just give it a blast with cleaner and put it back in. It just gets sooty since I have the Provent. Someday I will get brave and to the SEGR. I am just intimidated by electronics  .

Ford now offers the Provent system as an official dealer-installed option for their turboDiesel trucks for all the reasons we install one:
Boost hose deterioration
charge-air cooler contamination
intake system contamination, in combination with EGR system

That should make it easier for our correctly-installed add-in Provent system to pass federally-mandated DOT inspections wherever that is required and enforced - correctly installed meaning drain-back to crankcase: I'm ready................(Groucho Marx eyebrow emoticon)

I cleaned it at 23900 in may, when I did the elephant hose, but I used wd40 and a tooth brush, it didn't seem to do much, in fact my mileage went to 18, it was time for an oil change and had the fuel filter changed also, and cleaned it again this time with map sensor cleaner, it had a little soot on it but nothing like before, but have only put 64 miles on it since may. Ordered a new sensor, am going to have it put on next week, when they replace the fuel filler neck. Hope that my mileage goes back up, I know that short trips don't result in good mileage. :? :?

I cleaned mine when the crd derated on me and showed the maf code. Cleaning didn't work so I bought a new one. Made no difference except no longer derating. Cleaning it is a waste of time.

Correct - cleaning a failed sensor is pointless, particularly after ECM has DTC'ed - mine did not do so, so cleaning helped it a bunch, then SEGR helped a bunch more

Finally took a look at mine after I cleaned it and did the ORM about 25000 miles ago. Looked almost as good as after I cleaned it back then. I am also doing the EHM so between those two changes, there seems to be virtually no buildup on the MAP.

Looks like I will stick with what works and costs less.

I cleaned mine the other day and it was packed with carbon/soot. No change in performance either. I did, however, hand calculate fuel mileage for the first time (just bought it 2 weeks ago) and was only getting 20.5 MPG. What's up with that? My 6.0 Powerstroke was getting 17 MPG. Also did the EHM at the same time and will probably turn that idea around; don't like all the stinky smoke it created and maybe it;s the culprit to decreased fuel mileage.

First off you have to clean the MAP sensor AND then you have to unhook the battery for a while so that the computer relearns the clean sensor. When it clogs, it defaults the values and i dont think that it will reset on its own. If you dont like the EHM search poor mans provent. The SEGR will improve mileage. I get 26 city and 35 on the highway driving 65-70.

I have been cleaning mine every oil change (6k miles) and really haven't noticed any difference in performance or economy. I thought about replacing it to see if it would help with economy. You would think it would throw a code if it were bad. I am getting 20 to 22 mpg currently with 65k on the clock. After the initial cleaning it has stayed fairly clean.

First I will disconnect the battery for awhile as someone suggested to see if that helps.

Just disconnected the battery a little while ago and hooked it back up and took her for a ride. It might just be my imagination but I think there was a greatly reduced amount of smoke under hard acceleration and seemed to be much peppier or am I just trippin?

I did the same thing this morning. It seems to run better or it could all be my imagination. The test will be if fuel economy picks up a little.
