At 1,000 miles past warranty ....and my wife's CRD started throwing codes today (2 in one day! What a great start to the NO warranty life): P0299 and V0121.
The one that has me perplexed is the V0121 which my reader lists as a communication problem with the braking system. I cannot clear it.

Anyone ever had experience with this? I really hate the idea of crawling around in the mud trying to hunt down a brake problem if there is an easy fix - or, god forbid, it is something I will have to spend thousands to fix. I find nothing in the searched archives concerning this.

Not sure this will solve your problem but I had issues with the ABS system 1.5 years ago and it turned out to be the rearsection of the body wiring harness. It took the dealer with help from STAR 2 days to locate this. This is after replacing wheel sensors, ABS module etc. This repeated itself last fall. My theory is that the rear harness connectors are not impervious to moisture and when the monsoon season starts (Yes I live on the West coast as well) moisture gets in maybe mixed in with a bit of road salt from last year and the connector oxydizes and fails. Wiring in itself surely does not fail but connectors will.

My VAG-COM unit always reports a communications problem with the ABS controller but I've had no cels or warnings or trouble from it. OTOH my Harbor Frieght hand held scanner does not act that way. Not much help but I suspect it's a problem with communications on the bus  I think GMTD has also mentioned it as a suspect bus problem

Hopefully yours was still under warranty when they spent all that time and money not fixing it. This 06 just turned 37K so the worthless warranty is now completely worthless.....and since I was just laid off due to our crashed economy I'm looking for DIY solutions.
Per your suggestions I may crawl around in the mud and look for loose/wet/corroded connectors.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Chris

PS - Hopefully that last Chinook monsoon tracked far enough South to miss Langley - we had major flooding last week because of it.

Thank you.

Do you mean a problem with the connection between car and my nifty HF scanner?
I did a scan because her instrument cluster was lit up like a Christmas tree: The check engine light was on (for an "underboost" trouble code) as well as the ABS light and traction control light. The scan backed up what I was seeing and gave me the codes.

Are you suggesting a problem with the connection between car and my nifty HF scanner or a problem in the wiring harness connection?

Could be the connectors, as suggested - check for dirty\oxidized\corroded - how 'bout the ABS fuse? - Boost could be dirty MAP sensor

Thank you!
Which connectors? Where? Could it be something underneath the car - a connector near the brake - that might have gotten wet or muddy or a connector corroded under the hood? (she only drives it to work - my 05 is the one that gets abused)
Yeah the MAP is probably the culprit on the boost sensor problem. Now that I think about it, I haven't cleaned it since summer.

I'd start with the rear wheel sensor connectors, then the differential sensor ('06 has all three for ABS\Traction Control), then the main connnector where they all come together under the rear of the floorpan - then the main ABS connector on the module, there by the fuel filter - ABS has it's own fuse in the panel - also may require reflash, as there was some problem with the new-for-'06 ABS\Trac Cont system - I'd do the leg-work on the mechanical wiring\connection stuff first, tho
