I have to say I'm impressed with the power of the CRD. Yesterday we went to Bailey here in Colorado, which is up in the mountains a ways. We took Hwy 285 which has some quite steep areas. I was going 70mph up the mountain without a problem. If I were in my Cherokee I would have had to down shift and still would have been going 40 mph.

Now the only real test is to drive up I70 at the Eisenhower tunnel!

Nice isn't it, we've still only got 800 miles on the clock and she still feels tighter than a duck's rear end but at times it can still amaze how much pull there is from this engine. I am starting to like the way it sounds too for a four banger and a diesel trust me that's HIGH praise.

I took mine wheeling today and was amazed at the steady even power it has, if I were in a gas model it would be jumping and or bogging. The CRD is perfect for off roading!!!

This thing definitaly has the power. We purchased ours in May and took it to Colorado pulling my TJ and a custom trailer that I built for it. I went across 70 going to Ouray and came back through Cannon City and Colorado Springs. For those of you who don't know the area, there are some very steep graded roads out there. Bottom line is I had no problem. I did have to put it into second at times for heating reasons. However this thing can pull. Plus I got 17 mpg through the mountains and around 21 through Kansas pulling 4900 lbs. I'll post some pics for you later after I figure out how to do it.

I can't wait to add some performance upgrades.

Engine Temperature Gauge - Indicator Reads A Higher Temperature Than Actual
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves reprogramming the instrument cluster control (CCN)
module.
MODELS:
2005 (KJ) Liberty / Cherokee
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 2.8L turbo diesel
engine
(sales code ENR).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may notice that the engine temperature gauge may indicate that
the engine
temperature is high. In hot ambient temperatures, and under certain driving
conditions of
extended uphill driving while towing a trailer, the engine temperature
indicator may indicate
slightly above the 3/4 normal operating temperature mark on the temperature
gauge (but
below the engine hot temperature markings). This condition may be caused by
an incorrect
calibration of the of the engine temperature gauge.
New CCN module software corrects the old engine temperature gauge
calibration.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the engine and the cooling system are operating correctly, and the above
condition is
present, then perform the Repair Procedure.
SPECIAL TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
CH6000A Scan Tool (DRBIII®)
NUMBER: 08-043-05

DATE: August 11, 2005
CH7000A/7001A J1962 Cable with red DRBIII® connector
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
NOTE: Before proceeding verify that the DRBIII® software version is at level
62.2.
1. Connect the DRBIII® to the vehicle Data Link Connector (DLC)
2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
3. Using the DRBIII® scan tool recalibrate the instrument temperature gauge.
a. Select "DRBIII® Standalone"
b. Select "1998 - 2006 Diagnostics"
c. Select "All (Except Below)"
d. Select "Body Interior"
e. Select "Electro/Mech Cluster (MIC)"
f. Select "Miscellaneous"
g. Select "Recalibrate Temp Gauge" option.
4. If the recalibration of the instrument cluster was successful, the
DRBIII® will display
the following message: "Recalibration Successful".
5. If the version level of the original instrument cluster software allows
recalibration, but
the recalibration of the instrument cluster was NOT successful, then the
DRBIII® will
display one of the following messages: "Recalibration Failed" or "Write To
Memory
Address Failed". If one of these messages occurs repeat the above steps.
6. If the instrument cluster has already been recalibrated to the correct
software version
level, then the DRBIII® will display the following message: "Gauge Already
Recalibrated - Press Any Key to Exit".
7. The DRBIII® will display the following message if the original instrument
cluster
software version level is not the correct version level for recalibration:
"MIC Software
Version Incorrect - Press Any Key to Exit".
8. Verify that the instrument cluster engine temperature gauge has been
recalibrated by
selecting the "Recalibrate Temp Gauge" option again. The DRBIII® should
display the
following message: "Gauge Already Recalibrated - Press Any Key to Exit".
9. Turn the vehicle ignition switch to the "OFF" position
10. Disconnect the DRBIII® from the vehicle DLC.

This is the only vehicle I've ever owned with an automatic transmission that will hold overdrive (in this case 5th gear) up steep hillsides. I LOVE that about the turbo-diesel.

I'll second that.
My wife, daughter & I took our CRD to Gatlinburg, TN November 18th for our anniversary...it's first road trip (actually has never been much farther than 60 miles or so from "home" since purchased in April). That little thing eats up the hills on I-75 in Southern KY and I-40 in Eastern TN like it's flat lands. Amazing how it can still have a decent "pull" up a steep grade after having to slow down for others that eventually move over to the right hand lane where they should have stayed in the fiorst place.
