Mobil1 Truck & SUV (Sometimes labeled as Turbo Diesel, it's the same exact stuff, and both are the same as heavy-truck Mobil 1 DELVAC pure synth) Usually 5-40, and I get it at Advance Auto. The best way to search for oil is by the API tags on the bottle. Diesel is measured by the C scale, gas by S. CH is not as high a rating as CI or CJ, and CJ-4 is higher than just CJ. Make sense? I'm not sure exactly the rating that our Jeeps need, but I know my Jetta wanted at least a CH-4 and I kept finding CF rated stuff back then... Except for the Mobil1 Delvac. |

Here are two pages that explain the ratings. http://www.wearcheck.com/literature/techdoc/WZA008.htm#top http://www.wearcheck.com/literature/techdoc/WZA007.htm |

It is full synthetic, designed for modern diesels, and has consistently given very good oil analysis for folks over on the TDIclub forums for years. It is also one of the cheapest options for the Liberty CRD. I get mine at Schucks auto supply now ($18.99 a gallon I think). The only 0w40 approved for diesels that is sold in the US is Mobil 1 European Car Formula. This is what ships in the engine. If you look at the manual, though, it also approves full synthetic diesel 5w40 oils. I stopped using the 0w40 after reading anecdotal evidence that it increased the amount of gunk entering the turbo and fouling the MAP sensor. |

I actually do run the Mobil 0w40 at every change. Wal-Mart carried it for a while and stopped, now I buy it at Advanced Auto. My theory has been that paying a little more for Mobil is better than trying to save a buck and having to pay for a new engine. |

I usually run the Rotella ($18 - Walmart), but I bought the Mobile1 at Advance Auto last time they had their sale. Honestly, my engine runs like crap with the Mobile1. Much louder and really rough. I will not be buying it again. I will stick with the Rotella as it seems to work just fine and there are basically no other options available locally. I wish I could try some 0w40 sometime, but wont pay shipping to order some fancy-pants brand from the internet. |

I assume you bought 5w40 Mobile 1 Turbo Diesel Truck and won't buy that again? I've ran all 3 (Mobile 0w40, Mobile5w40 TDT, and Rotella 5w40) and didn't notice a difference at all on how the engine ran or mileage. Of course i didn't do any oil analysis either. |

Wal Mart supertech straight 30 weight. Engine runs crappy but man it is cheap.. JK/ i run the 5/30 extended performance Mobil One but will be switching to an Amsoil product next change. I change the oil @ 12000 or 15000 miles and use the Amsoil EA filters and their oil analysis test that has been done is alot better than any other oil. My opinion is like another member stated, spend the money now on oil or later on an engine. |

Yes, sorry I didn't clarify. I used the Mobil1 Turbo Diesel. I don't have an oil analysis, just seat of the pants. But, it is noticeable enough that even my wife asked why the Jeep was running so rough. |

BP oil and unfortunately it is not avalible in the US in the type and weight I need. The dealer in Germany had it in bulk. So I am still looking for something to use in the CRD when I go tot change the oil next time. Yes I change it as I do not trust any of the dealers I have talked to here. |

X2 I've put several hundred thousand miles on various VW diesels using Rotella 5-40 As a side note, I read when it was first introduced Mobil sued Shell contending since it was made from dino base stock it was not synthetic. It was ruled that since it was heavily modified it was "technically" synthetic. I had used Dino Rotella 15-40 for years with never a problem so I started using the 5-40 when it became available |
