Howdy - welcome to LOST
I don't have the EVIC - but I've heard it's not real accurate

if you just accelerated to 60 - you were still in 4th gear -
you have to go up to about 62-63 to kick into 5th - you can then slow back down to 60 and it'll get better mileage.

Cold weather really impacts the mileage - warp2diesel's 2 mpg change is the minimum - most people have more change than that.

Towing anything from 1000 lbs to 7000 lbs, I get 19mpg the whole time. Really kinda weird how it doesn't vary with the weight, but there it is.

Not towing, I usually do about 20 in the city and 27 on the highway, but that is b/c I'm going 80. If I lowered it a bit to 70, I've seen 30 mpg.

Oh, I have 215/85 commercial highway truck tires at 60psi, and no lift or other aftermarket bodywork. Yet. The tires add only .5 inches larger diameter than stock, next set will be 1.5" larger - 235/85

Actually, the ones I am looking at have already been fitted to the front wheel so I could test it. The ONLY place it made any contact was on the pinch weld, and just barely. I decided not to get them simply b/c I had just bought the KJ, and didn't want to be hitting it with a sledge that soon.

Outer measure of the 235/85/16 BF Goodrich Commercial T/A is 31.5 IIRC, and a drop of over 200 revs per mile from stock. Should be good for a nice bump in mpg.

What I like about the current 215/85/16 shoes however, is the nice tall sidewall. I fear NO curb rash on my wheels, b/c the curb is SHORTER than the sidewall! :lol:

Test drove an 06 CRD today. The best milage I could get on the DIC at 60 mph was 22.3. Is the computer usually fairly accurate? I really liked the diesel but thought it should get better milage. To be fair it was about 30 degrees so I'm sure that had some affect on milage. They want 15,800 for the CRD sport with 26,700 miles. Nice shape with Firestone tires replacing the Goodyears. Tempting.

Post subject:	Factor in odometer error
My odometer shows 10% lower than actual mileage. I multiply the MPG calculation by 1.1 to correct it. Mine gets 28+ in Spring, Summer, Fall and 26 Winter. I inflate my tires to 40psi.

I live 1/ 1/2 miles from I-88 and drive early in the morning before the traffic starts. If I lived out East or drove during more congested times, my winter MPG would be less.

I have taller 235/75/16 ATs and the OME Lift...I add 6% to the odometer to adjust for GPS and Mile Marker checked mileage. I just did a trip of 222 miles (120 highway and 102 city) and got 23.91mpg. I usually get about 20mpg or better city so that would give 27.24mpg highway. I was doing about 68mph gps the whole way...70 degrees

The best I've done is 420 miles mixed city/hwy on 18.2 gallons uncorrected. Corrected I'm guessing ~26mpg... that's with 3" lift, 245/75-16 MTR's, skids, and some heavy steal super-nerfs. I'm pretty pleased to be avg'ing 25+ mixed. I plan to use my GPS and validate mpg's, I just need to remember to keep it in the car and turn it on.

dieselmax: (1) the EVIC is known to be inaccurate; (2) previous poster is right, you need to make sure you get it into 5th gear first anyway; (3) to speed up the warmup, there's a viscous pump that steals energy until the engine is properly warmed up, sooooo, unless you drove it far enough to really get it up to temp, the mileage will reflect that. This is definitely a vehicle that does not like to be driven 5 miles and shut down everyday. I've broken 30 (but barely) on road trips. I average about 25. Many other have reported mileage in those ranges, and some even better. But you won't see those figures on a test drive of, say 10 miles RT using the EVIC.

4) how long has the beast been sitting on the lot without being driven and/or serviced, and 5) how old is the diesel fuel in the tank.

I've seen as low as 17 in the city but typically average around 20 in the city and 25 highway. I have never seen 27 or 28 MPG that some have seen.

City I average 19-22 depending on weather/driving/traffic Highway I average 25-28 depending on speed. Towing ~4500lbs I get usually 19mpg. I'm all stock.

Drag depends on vehicle velocity relative to wind, trailer frontal area and trailer shape.

I have seen 30 mpg (29.77 actually) calculated on 150 miles highway driving at 65 mph. Combined city and highway i get 25...temps in the 40s and 50s, stock tire size inflated to 40 psi.

How did they treat you for mileage? Whose were they? The BFG tires that I have now (and the 235/85 variant for later) aren't too bad for weight, and are designed as a highway tire. Load range E, so they are ready for anything. I know some other brands seem to line their tires with lead, they get so heavy.

Yeah, I have 235/75/16s that are ~29.6" OD (about the same as your 215/85/16s) and they fit without any lift. They are just a bit wider than yours...after I lifted, they will touch the front sway bar at full lock...but otherwise they are fine. I had 235/85/16s on my 2002 Jeep Liberty 3.7L and liked them.

Well I just put 4000 on the CRD and the last fill up netted me 470 miles before the light went on. Average speed was around 75mph

Thanks for all the replies. I did have it warmed up good and in 5th. I felt it shift in at about 63mph. The jeep has been sitting awhile it turned over real slow when I first started it. I actually test drove it before, about 3 months ago when it was warmer outside but didn't know about the evic then so I didn't check it. They wanted 19,000 then now they're down to 15,700 but they don't want to give me what I think my trade is worth. I'd really like to have it but the price isn't right yet. Thanks again this is an informative site.
