Edit: Can't get the vehicle to respond to "Step2" of sequence (i.e. "Sentry Key" light does not flash).

Any thoughts?

2005 CRD

The instructions in the owner's manuel process calls for two already programmed keys to be used and then the "new" key to be introduced. But, it does not mention what to do with additional, "already programmed" keys.

I have been told that with other, similar age, vehicles, "all" keys for that vehicle must be involved in the process of adding an additional key to the "group" or previously functioning keys won't work. Worse, supposedly using one of these "old" keys will cause the vehicle to be imobilized and require towing to a dealer to be reset.

The "new" key will expand the "group" to a total of four.

Anyone have experience with this?

(I'm wondering if I should treat the remaining "old" key not required for the process as a "new" key and "program" it in sequence after the new key.)

Thanks,

DOC

I think the 06 modles are different but on them you put one key in cycle the ignition as spelled out on page 18, do the same for the second good key and then it chimes and the dash light comes on and that's when you introduce new keys up to a total of 8.

Hopes this helps :?

I am having similar problems with adding a 4th key to my 5 CRD. The process seemed to work the first time or two but I had a problem with the way the sequence is written in the manual. It seems to me that they have you turn to the ON position in one step and ON again in the next step. I am concerned that repeated attempts have filled all 8 key memory spots.

I have seen a few Chrysler vehicles where the SKIM module fails to add additional keys because it thinks all available slots are used.
In the past, I have had to make use of a friendly neighborhood mechanic shop that had a scan tool to add the keys for me.

Brought 3 keys; 2 origional, 1 new to the dealer, he could not do it.
He said try a bigger dealer with a bigger programmer.
Any wonder why we are so screwed?

The main issue is that "Step 2" of the manual procedure does not work. (The alert does not "ding" nor does the display flash.) So, there is no issue with the "new" key. I can't get even get to that step.

Your SKIM module is probably hosed.
Find a mechanic shop with a scan tool.
Slip him $5 to add the key with the tool.

Any idea what type/level of scantool is required for adressing problems with the SKIM mdule? Is it posssible to to "reset" it so additional keys can be programmed in the future using the "factory" procedure in the owner's manual?

Thanks Again,

The WCM (Wireless Control Module) is the one who is handling the programming and counting of the keys. The WCM is then the module that transmits the "secret key" to the SKIM/Immobilizer to release the start.

A competent dealer with a DRBIII should be able to clear it out and start over.

Is a DRBIII only something a D/C/Jeep dealer would have?

Thanks,
