Post subject:  ...heard something strange driving into work today

when driving into work this morning, I was doing about 50-55 mph when i heard (and felt) a thud sound which felt like it was underneath the car. It occurred while it was in gear, so the sound did not come from the vehicle shifting. Following the "thud" noise, the engine began to make a "whooshing" sound, much like the one you hear when you start it up in the morning and the jeep is not warmed up yet (which it was). All of this happened in the last 5 mins. of my drive in. I am at work now and will be driving it again in a few hours but as it stands, I have no engine lights, etc. that point to anything strange yet. Should I be concerned about this?

That's the sound mine made when my drivers side intercooler hose blew out with a small 1 inch slit it did not make much power after that. I put a new one on only cost $79.00 for the part. I now have 96,000 and the hose from the turbo to the intercooler is still in great shape but I also did the ORM at 16,000 miles. My slit was on the bottom side of the hose about 3 inches from the outlet tube of the intercooler. Hope this helps.

The hose is located just to the left of the fuse and relay box up front in the engine bay its connection starts up high and goes down under a ac line I think and ends up connecting to the flow control valve and EGR valve the hose is about 3 inches in diameter or their abouts it is black on the outside and a reddish orange color on the inside. I hope this helps their are special clamps that hold it in place so do not throw them away it you find that your hose is the problem.
