Post subject:  President Obama's train ride

So this is a random question.

I want to try and find a (somewhat secluded) section of track that Obama's train will pass by that I can park my Jeep and wave to him. I'd also like to be holding a large banner that says "We voted for you, please keep your promises on Biodiesel"

Of course I have this idealized my in my head that I'll find some overpass or cliff that I can hang out on. The reality is I bet we'll have more secret service on every inch of track than imaginable, regardless is there anyone else who'd be willing to try and find a spot and park our diesels and welcome the new president while reminding him of the promises he made?

We did get the jeep with the intention of using B100, it's had two tanks of it at best ... $4.75 vs $2.25 for diesel... hard to justify. I'd like to think that might change in the next few years with proper tax incentives.

I wouldn't hold your breath on him keeping his word, he's already back peddling on some of his promises saying he won't be able to do everything he promised during the electoin. Thanks to the media he won, hopfully it won't take to long for America to know they screwed up and dump him!

Don't count on it, it took Americans 8 years to dump the GOP.

Try 30 years. The GOP has been screwing up the USA from Congress since Reagan. Maybe now we can begin to rebuild the USA and undo some of the business-is-god nonsense that has depleted both our economy and our stature in the world. It's time to be more than a bit protectionist about this country. No more "outsource to China b/c they can build it cheaper" crap, b/c do the prices for those cheaper goods match in dropping? Not a chance.

Made in China, made the jobs go away.

Ditto for these "free trade" agreements with Mexico, where we send them our jobs... And they only send back their unwanted excess citizens.

Time for some regulation to watch over the commerce to ensure a fair playing field. Without regulation, "the market" would have you paying $50 for a bag of ice during a disaster... And would you think that is fair? They do, since they have your money.

Shy starting another all out war. I wanted to make a statement, showing alternative capable vehicles and their owners uniting to greet the president while saying "You did make a promise. We're watching."

Apparently that's unamerican. Thanks much for destroying what little bit of faith I had left.

Not unamerican, it's just that with all the security as was mentioned, you'd be lucky to get within a mile of the tracks. Not to say there won't be selected areas where people will be allowed up close, but by invite only (ie, registered Dem and six figure campaign contributor) and for photo ops only - so the rest of us can see on CNN the "throngs of well wishers" cheering on the new Prez.

We have 4x4, and like the EV1 protesters (many of whom were maced and jailed for having done nothing more than stand with signs in front of the GM building in California), I'm not afraid to be incarcerated for my right to free speech.

And, in these perilous days and times, homeland security won't be too averse to granting your wish, try getting close to the presidential cavalcade on rails - nah, think I'll just stay home and discreetly greet him from this side of the LCD barrier........................

I don't know where you got the $50 figure, but is a bag of ice for $50 better than no ice at all if you really need it? Price controls lead to shortages every time. If you left the price at $1, everyone would buy as much as they could carry until the supply was depleted leaving everyone else "out in the cold".

kcfoxie,

Let me see if some of my railroad friend can help. I will get back to you. Also try addressing the issue on the http://change.gov/ web site. You very likely will get an answer and not a canned one.

Keep the faith baby!

I don’t know how Obama can be for biodiesel when he’s against the combustible engine. Plus, I think he has more serious issues to worry about then finding ways to promote biodiesel and still make his party happy. Many democrats aren’t wanting to rape our soil to grow fuel.

"We should also be investing in new technologies, so we can replace the internal combustible engine, which has served us well, but it’s time for us to move on, because we want to get rid of fossil fuels.” - Obama
