Post subject:  Parts availability?

On Dec 28 our 05 CRD was hit in the left front wheel. It was taken to the body shop on the 30th. I just received a call saying that Chrysler has pulled back a large amount of replacement parts from dealer inventory and one of the parts needed (lower control arm) is not available and they are estimating at least another week or two. This is stupid. This body style was in production until 07 and you can't get parts anymore? Bet Toyota could get me a part in less than a month.

My brother has a Toyoto Previa and a few years ago he needed a steering rack and the dealer couldn't find any in the US  I suggested he try a local import car parts place where I get VW parts
They got him a rebuilt one overnight and the dealer was more then happy to install it  That's been several hundred thousand miles ago :D

All car companies do stuff like this - even worse once a vehicle goes out of production. I had a Subaru SVX that was broken into and I had to wait 3 months for a specific dash mounting bracket that wasn't scheduled to go into production. I was on a first-name basis with most of Subaru North America by the time that debacle was over

At least the at fault driver's company rented me a car while I wait. Infinity G37x. Nice car but not really a substitute.
