Ok, so who knows about LPG kits, and which ones can be used with our CRDs? LPG in my area is now down to $1.65 per gallon, so it is considerably cheaper than diesel, and I've heard (and read from diesel power) that it can up the mileage by a huge amount... Thoughts?

I don't think it's worth the investment.

I can not imagine the cost would be worth the fuel savings alone. Right now, at least around here, diesel is ~2.40/gal and I avg ~25 mpg......seem it would need to go to about 50 mpg to pay off the install costs.

Read the same article and was thinking about it (but with CNG). The big benefit is in economy if you're pushing the engine, so if you're towing.... that's great. Here's my topic from a while back with some discussion:

Instead of RUNNING SHINE as they did before the repeal of Prohibition, you will be running Tax Free LP fuel. Do one better and go with CNG it is even cheaper. Just remember that 1 galllon of LP does not equal 1 gallon of diesel. That is why the LPG tractors had the much bigger tanks than their diesel counterparts and CNG buses have tanks up on the roof

True enough on the energy balance... But I'm not looking to replace diesel completely, just combine with it to boost the economy.
But where can I get CNG? I know where to source LPG for (currently) $1.69 per gallon, diesel is 2.50 right now. As far as the towing tho, I thought it was the exact opposite - The best benefit was found when NOT towing, at least that was the impression I got from the Diesel Power article.

Could be wrong on the towing thing, but my commute is about 3 miles, so I'm always fighting with normal warm-up for fuel efficiency... Assuming you have NG applicances/service at home, you get one of these little guys:

All you would need to do is get the refrigeration oil back into the compressor, essentially a high pressure Provent. For a brief period of time there was a product marketed called OZ-12 to replace R-12, it was propane!
CNG= Compressed Natural Gas. You will generate heat from compressing the Natural Gas, but a refrigeration condenser could bleed that away and in the winter would take a little chill off in the garage. CNG would be more cost effective than Propane since you are getting it from a pipeline. In Illinois, I would fear the Illinois Department of Revenue more than any safety concerns. Google the local, state, and Federal laws before you invest.
When I get an emergency generator, I will go with Natural Gas instead od Gasoline or Diesel.

But you would only be boosting the economy of diesel, the propane would cost as much or more than diesel per mile when you include the cost. Might as well carry a pair of jerry cans of bio for a greater range.
