I put the CRD into 4-lo tonight to pull out of some mud, and when I went back to 2wd mode, the dashboard lights think that the 2wd position = 4-Part time, 4-Part is 4-fulltime, and 4-fulltime has no lights at all, but the Jeep still moves. If I had to guess, it seems like some electrical encoder has rotated around the handle's axis of rotation, but I have no idea. Does the 4-part require an electrical contact to engage? What about 4-full? Now, I've NEVER felt the same type of torque steer in part-time 4wd as I have in 4-low or even full-time. But now I definitely don't feel any differences between 2wd and 4-part. How exactly does this handle connect? Is it electrical only, or is there a physical link too? Any thoughts on what the heck happened? The *wonderful* arse miners at Mopar have decided that somewhere along the line, I became the third owner of this CRD, so I no longer have ANY warranty coverage. Joyful. Add to that, I'm a starving grad student... And I want to be able to fix this cheap. If anyone has any pictures to point at and say "This is where to look" that would be great. I've learned my way around the ends of a wrench, but mucking about with my primary form of transportation isn't my idea of fun. The easier I can understand where to look, the better. That whole grad school thing also doesn't leave much extra time for fun wrenching.. *sigh* |

I had the same problem. I think it was a sensor on the transfer case, but mine was fixed by the dealer so i'm not sure of its exact location. |

geordi, a similar question was asked in the 4x4 portion of the board. here is the link http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=39308 i would say as long as you have the lever all the way down you are fine... i can't notice any difference between 2wd 4pt 4ft unless on the snow |

I think yer right, the sensor that lights the dash has slipped. Should be easy enough to tell if it is in part-time 4. In any case, I think I'd wander past the dealer and ask 'em to tighten the screws s'posed to hold the sensor in place. |

The sensor itself screws into the t-case.It's like $60 for a new sensor and takes 10mins to change.
