KJ CRD Into JK????
It seems this pops up every once in a while and good reasons against the swap win out.
I wanted a new JK with a Diesel but ended up with a Diesel Weasel KJ CRD instead.
Love the CRD just not thrilled with the KJ.
This is the diesel braintrust. Well, maybe a little exageration but just a little.
Any good news? Any sneaky news, like J8's from Egypt for sale or just buy a JK, rip out that 3.8 and plug in the 2.8 VM?
Remember, the oil pan is expensive and just don't fit right....with the solid axle.
Maybe I should just get the gasser (Patooie) and stuporcharge it till she blows or git a GM kit.
Ideas????

Post subject:  What about the 4.2L Cummins?

VM 2.8L is a great engine, but the 4.2L will meet any and all emissions, we may need to wait a couple years. Even if Dodge does not use it, the 4.2L will go into other applications, hopefully over the road. If the GVW is a restriction, beef up the frame and throw in 3/4ton axles, bingo bigger class.
Worse case, drop a JK onto a Dodge Cummins chassis.
I love the look of the JK too, but the JK I want does not exist yet.
Where there is a will there is a way :)

Maybe you can just buy one soon...

Over here we already have the JK CRD.

Thanks,
It is much better than looking at the 3.8l gasser (Patooie!).
How much would it cost you to buy one: 4door, auto, hard top, 4wd?
Are your taxes a lot?
Make me feel like Nacho Libre!!!!(Jack Black), Don Quixote and Sancho Panza.
Sure would like to go to Spain and drive one home.

The easiest way is to get a job in spain that lasts at least a year, buy one there, and then try to bring it back. Thanks to CARB and other craziness, importing such late-model vehicles is really difficult. You may be better off with one that's a 2005/2006 (were there diesel JK's in Europs then?)

No, JKs were sold starting with the 2007 model year.

Also, its basically impossible to import one, don't even think about it.

fastrob, as you may already know (or maybe not), I’m in the process of building a JK CRD. Actually, I have nothing to do with the project other than spend money. Anyway, Todd at dieseltoyz can get you the engine from Europe. Currently, the economy in Europe is weak, which makes this a great time to buy. If you are interested, then you can join the list to buy one. My plan is to wait until we have enough interested people (who have money) and buy parts at one time. If you are serious, please call Todd and tell him that I (Rhett) sent you his way. Todd has recently been to Europe and has made many connections to export whatever you want. And yes, shipping entire automobiles is illegal. Shipping parts is not illegal and is done on a daily basis. Todd is super busy and his job is in high demand, therefore he prefers serious inquiries. His work is top notch.

I thought that would level out, all we hear is the economy over there is even worse than the crap we're standing in :)

Rhett,
I have teenagers that also drive the KJ. Hopefully, the body will die before the motor, so it will then be available for transplant. Just want a JK 4 door with the diesel, dana 60 rear axle and 5 speed auto.
It might be cheaper and easier to buy new if/when they come out.
Have you been posting on your rig's progress?
Have not observed any recent posts, that is why this thread was started.
Diesel JK was the goal when our KJ was purchased.

Ahh.... you need a J8 then! 2.8, 5spd auto, Dana 60 w/ 4.10 gears. Time to move to Egypt![/i]

I’d like to see a diesel Wrangler enter into the U.S.A. market, however it doesn’t appear that it’s going to happen anytime soon. I haven’t been posting on my JK build thread because I’ve been waiting for the 2007 4 door Wranglers to come down in price before making the diesel swap. My wife loves the Wrangler, so I had some financial backing and marital leverage going into this swap.

From a European point of view I think it is redicoulus the US government doesn't let you have a 2.8 JK which has a Euro 4 emission tag but let you drive a Humvee that pumps out at least 3 times the toxins that a VM would.

:?

Over here even the big trucks ( like MACK or Peterbuild or whatever brand of big rig) need to be Euro 4 certified.

I don't get it.

Anyway, a new JK CRD is around $31K, while a new KK CRD is $40K...

who are burned out and can not function anymore in the Court Rooms, so they run for office and get elected. They know nothing about Science or the Environment, true Scientists and Environmental Engineers are making money and not chasing Government Grants with mostly wild ideas.
An example of lack of pier review in the Scientific Community is how many have drunken the Theory of Relativity Koolaid and elevated Albert Einstein from fellow Scientist who expected the Theory of Relativity to be questioned and reviewed, instead they turned him intoa god and created a new religion. Nicole Tesla (a super engineer) blew the Theory of Relativity away by just siting errors in the calculations. Since then several Scientists have verified Tesla's findings and gone beyond the speed of light, and produced gravemetric propulsion reactions with over 100,000 times the thrust Einstein thought possible.

I totally agree with you Tony about the stupidity of the politicians, the only thing tighter than their ties around their necks is the muscles in their rectums also squeezing their necks. As I write this, they are out to prove it again.

Interesting how they treat different classes of vehicles differently. On trucks like my International 9400i semi tractor, I can put any year/model engine in it I want. It is an '06 but I can put in a 1998 DD if I want (which I will probably do when the '06 Cummins I have in it now bites the dust). You can even buy a 2009 glider kit (complete truck body and chassis) and put in your own engine and transmission from any year you want. Perfectly title legal. The emissions standards are tied to the engine and not the truck. So... as long as, say, a 2000 Cummins N-14 or 1998 DD Series 60 meets the emissions standards of the year they represent, then it is perfectly legal to run it in whatever year truck body you want. Even a new 2010 truck body, even though the 2010 emissions level of NEW engines will be really tight.

Really too bad we can't also do that with smaller rides. It would make putting a '06 VM 2.8L into a brand new Jeep a nice idea. Especially since the VM engine will probably outlast any KJ it was put in, and it is designed as an easily rebuild type engine.

Don't think the emissions picture is going to get better anytime soon, only worse. Wouldn't be surprised to see the present bunch end up imposing CARB's nonsense on the entire country. Such as telling the trucking industry that by 2011 any of their trucks that enter the state, regardless of when they were manufactured or where they're registered, have to be retrofitted to meet the latest emissions standards - and then asking for federal tax money from the rest of the country to pay for their state mandate.

Only thing more idiotic they've tried to pull was trying to force merchant and cruise ships within 200 miles of the CA coast to burn ULSD, instead of the bunker fuel their engines were designed for. They were literally laughed out of court on that one, for thinking their self-imposed state mandate could override international maritime law.

... Emissions that are based up on fact are backed up with evidence. Such as increased fuel efficiency reduces CO2 emissions and the percent of CO2 has risen since the early 20th Century. What they need to comply with with very little to nothing to back it up is referred to as Legislation.

CARB is using a lot of PIE in the SKY and weak evidence to justify their regulations.

back on topic: you would really much better like the '08 VM we have in the JK over here, it has a new injection system and an upgrated turbo.

Of course on both.

Too bad that we can't upgrade the injectors and have the needed mods done to the ECM. Then it would be reality.

I could ship one out to you :D

Yeah, piezo injectors would be nice...but I am still satisfied with the way my little 2.5 behaves.
