Post subject:  EGR problems

ok. heres my problem this time.

my CEL came on. went by the dealer and had them run the codes and it was the EGR. They didn't give me a nimber just said that the EGR had little to no flow to it. Then they said that they could clean it out for about $700.

Now my question to you all is - If i do the ORM or buy and install a SEGR will i still have to have the stupid lil thing cleaned or replaced?

please any help at all will help. I am in TX and have only the few tools i tote around in the jeep with me. besides that. i have learned alot about the jeep but the EGR is something i have no clue how to do and my dad (mechanic) is at home in LA 250 miles away.

 $700 is very expensive.

If you don't care about the check engine light, you don't really need to do anything, although the ORM modification will keep the EGR more inoperative than it currently is. If you would like the check engine light to go out without having to repair the EGR, the SEGR will do that. However it requires modification to the Jeep's harness, so you need to be or find someone skilled in modifying wiring to install it.

$700 is what I was quoted so I decided to do it myself since it wasn't major rocket science. I am no mechanic but I was able to replace it in a day. Then the codes remained and it still drove badly and thats when I discovered the split CAC hose which I also replaced myself. After the hose, all codes went away.

so i can just leave it the way it is or do the ORM? If doin the ORM will let me be able to drive it back home so me and my dad can clean the EGR then i am fine with the light bein on. I have the money to get it fixed but i would like to save money if i can. i seen that there is another build goin on for the SEGR and i will get that if i need it. but i don't go off road. at least not yet.

its not driving bad. only thing i noticed before the light came on was a lil hesitation from a dead stop. it don't have the get up and go that it did.

the tech turned the light off and it didn't come back on in the 10 miles that it took me to get back to the camper.

It sounds to me you can just leave it as is. It will not prevent you from driving it. The ORM will immediately light the check engine indicator, but just because the light is on will not stop you from driving the Jeep.

Don't forget to clean your map sensor. If you do the orm you will probably not need to ever clean it again.
