Usually, when I first get on the highway my tranny wont shift into 5th gear for a few miles, any ideas what is happening? |

If you get to a highway before normal operating temp is reached, the torque converter will not lock up. You may be interpreting this as it not shifting into top gear. DOC |

Cold start? Mine does this as well, it is part of the warm up of the engine and tranny. I keep below 100kph before I start getting on it. |

Yeah - but the poor guy is stuck in Vail for the entire winter and has to drive a whole mile to get to work. (he could probably ski to work) so I bet he's not overheating it not that I'd be Jealous or anything.. |

My CRD stays in the garage, it always shifts to OD at the first opportunity. I knew about how this works but have not noticed it in normal driving. |

That is normal, you have had that thing long enough I am shocked that you have never noticed. |
