I saw a epsisode on "Trucks" about a company called "freedom fuel" or something like that. I will have to dig out the show on my Tivo to remember. Anyway they liked it quite a bit. I checked into it and looked like the only downside besides getting the used veggie oil was getting the methanol part. It was really hard to locate when I tried to find it. Anyway I will try to find the link and post it for you. Chris |

i had that link,no this process don't use methanol or other hazmat materials and only suppose to use materials from home depot, lowes etc that cost around $200 to $300 to make. that freedom fuel is around $3000 to buy and your outsource chemicals are expensive. you can info on it from the trucks website with a link to it. http://www.freedomfuelamerica.com/ |

DieselSecret is an additive to SVO (Straight Vege Oil) that makes it thinner so it can go through the injectors. Their big sales pitch as to why to use it instead of making biodiesel is that you don't have to handle Hazmat chemicals, BUT their secret formula contains chemicals that are carcinogenic and even more hazardess than the biodiesel ones - go figure. As to whether it works. I guess - maybe. Don't know for sure, but it seems a little dicey to me, especially in cold weather.[/code] |

It's snake oil. Check out the biodieselnow.com forums and search for it. Also tdiclub.com forums. It's gone around a few times. It doesn't actually make biodiesel and a few people more knowledgeable than I have run tests on it and it doesn't make veyr high quality stuff. If you had a mid 80's volvo or MB it would probably be fine but I wouldn't run it through our high pressures common rail systems. Home BioD reactors can be had for aorund $500. It's not as automated as those $3K systems but you just plan to burn a Saturday once a month making it. Check out the above forums for info. Personally, I just buy BioD made from waste veggie oil that a group refines into biodiesel. Get to feel even more like a bunny-hugger that way |

I'm sick of diesel secret. It is snake oil, pure and simple. As another poster to this list pointed out, it uses chemicals far more toxic than those needed to make FAMEs, ie, "regular biodiesel." I've seen the MSDS. Diesel secret adds xylol, an aromatic component of gasoline with an octane rating of about 120, and naphthalein, the more dangerous version of mothballs, and itself with a high octane rating (although I don't recall of the top of my head what it is) into your fuel tank. Why in God's name you would want to put racing gas (ie, ultra high octane) in a diesel engine is completely beyond me. The ONLY benefit I can discern for this crap is that it puts your money in their pockets. But then that's not a benefit to you, now is it? |
