Post subject:  Rear Side window leaks

My June '05 CRD has developed leaks on both the left and right rear side windows. Same location mirror image.

I took it the glass shop per the dealers call and they water tested. Of cousre no leak showed up on either window.

In North-Carolina we had a very dry summer and fall so the leak has been there no doubt it is just the weather or rainy season is now here.

I think the luggage rack might have something to do but the garden hose method didn't work.

They asked me to bring it by during a rain so maybe the driving and wind has an affect too?

Thanks,

Tom

Where do the leaks appear on those little back-side windows? Front? Back? Top? Bottom? Did they leak while the truck was stationarty? Or while you were driving? What was the temperature (cold air temp and hot interior temp?)?

Those rear side windows always looked a little suspicious to me. It looks like they're just glued onto the top of the frame with no edging or anything. It certainly makes scraping ice off them easy (no edge to hit), but it seems like a potential failure point to have the leading edge of...well, anything...be the edge of a glass pane.

Which luggage rack are you referring to and who put it on? Might check the mount points for gaskets if it's aftermarket and anything was drilled through the roof. If you're talking about the factory luggage rails, have your Jeep dealership inspect/water-test those mount points for gaskets. Without gaskets, rain could potentially leak in there and appear in the rear window sills. Water's funny like that; You don't always see it where it's leaking.

the leak has occurred both stationary and moving.

the leak is coming from the top. If the headliner was removed it would be easier to locate.

the luggage rack is factory

thanks!
