Hi guys, my name is Luis Ruiz from PR, and actually I was reading a lot about the mods that we can do to our CRD's, mine works pretty good, and also I made and run Bio Diesel at 50%. My CRD average 22-25 mpg, depend of the road. My doubt is that sometimes I feel it stronger with the tach running all the way to the 4,000 rpm limit, and sometimes without any apparent reason, it feels slower and just go to the 3,000 rpm mark at full trhottle (I need to lift the acelerator to the trans to make the shift). It likes the computer controlled some sensor or his own programing to add or get less power when the computer decide. I know that you talk about EGR, In Tank Pump, etc. What I should look first???. (I change the Fuel Filter frecuently, that's not the problem, vaccums looks good).
Any help would be appreciate.
Regards
Luis Ruiz

Have you looked at and or cleaned the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor on the intake manifold :?: They can get pretty gummed up but are easy to clean with CARB cleaner. The hardest part is getting the one allen head bolt holding it on out the first time and dealing with the spring clips holding the harness. Throw the spring clips away and replace with 6mm nuts. Use a allen wrench with a good tip and don't let it slip

Did you check if your fuel filter head was leaking when you changed the filter? you need to pull the fuel heater plug to check.

The fuel filter looks good, also no diesel or oil, in the floor where the CRD rest. What I need to dismount first?? in order to check the MAP Sensor?? (I never before had been ckeck it), this gonna be my first check.

Luis.

I tried to find a link for you but the search and how threads are titled lead me to a dead end
The MAP sensor is on the top side of the intake manifold in the rear with one allen head bolt holding it on.
You need to remove the steel spring clips holding the wire trough on so you can move it aside to gain access to the screw.
Remove the plug from the sensor.
The first time the screw is removed it will be very tight.
With the screw out twist slightly and pull it out.
Use carburator cleaner and a tooth brush to clean it. If you have compressed air dry it with air.
Put the sensor back in and put the screw in.
Put the wire trough over the 6mm studs and secure with 6mm nuts. It will be much easier next time with the nuts.

to check for fuel leaks - check the fuel heater plug - if it's wet with diesel - it's pulling air in

Hi again, and thanks for the info, 3 hours ago I removed my MAP sensor and it was completely destroyed, I thought this is the problem (or one of them). I was in autozone and Advanced Auto Parts, but they didn't have the part, tomorrow I'm going to Mopar. How much I expected to pay for the sensor??.
Thanks and good rides
Luis.

They are about $35 online. I don't know what a dealer will charge but it shouldn't be too much more than that.

Is it destroyed or just very, very dirty? I can not imagine how it could become destroyed.

Upppsss, after visitying differents Autoparts that sell Bosh parts (Ex. Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, etc), I finished in a Mopar Autoparts here in PR, that didn't have in stock in any of his stores in PR and charge me with $144!!! (Tax Included), is supposed to arrived from USA next Thursday. Last night I was looking by internet and don't see it in any web page. Can you tell me, where you found it "Cheaper"???. Apparently I was so f**ck in the buy.

Besides, when I removed my MAP sensor, the gummy part, disintegrated in my hands, my CRD has 74,000 miles, and it looks that never this sensor was change or clean (I take the CRD with 48,000 miles). I'm planning to put "Sea Foam" in the oil, 500 miles prior the next change that is scheduled to be at 75,000 miles, to clean some of the mess. Also the EGR was function all the time, until now that I read your post about the damaged that it created.
Regards
Luis.

Hi Guys, Luis again here, right now I finished to put the new MAP Sensor, and beside, applying what I read in the Forum, disconnect the conector of the Heater of the Fuel Filter (no leaks observed, all clean), and also the EGR sensor above the Air Filter. Then I was running my CRD to see if the problem of Power intermitence dissapear. But NO!!!, my CRD still running powerless, when I apply Full Throttle, it react quick but the magic disappear by 2,500 rpm, and the Revs don't go above 3,000 rpm at anytime, also I need to release the Full Throttle at least partially, for the transmission to change. This was the situation with also a New Fuel Filter. 1 month ago (I don't think is the Fuel filter).

Sometimes, less than a half of the times (before all this lecture and testing), the CRD sometimes react powerful to the complete 4,000 rpm band.

What can be the problem???, Insufficient of diesel???, if that so, why???, computer??, In tank pump???, or maybe a computer restriction???.
WHAT LOOKING NEXT????
Any hel would be appreciated.
Regards
Luis.

Luis; it sounds like you are experiencing limp mode. The usual reason for the computer to put the engine into limp mode is because of air getting into the fuel system or the computer interpreting a blocked fuel filter as air in the fuel. If you are running B50 I would bet money that you have a partially blocked fuel filter, especially if it is home brewed, because it only takes a gram or two of sediment or glycerin to block the already restrictive filter. If it is an actual air leak, it could be fixed with a lift pump. I have had the exact same issue when I brewed my own BD and a new fuel filter + clean fuel fixed the problem.

Thanks "Nursecosmo", I'm going to clean the actual filter (and change if not repair the problem), and I'll let you know if this cure my CRD. Thanks
Luis.

How do you plan to "clean" the filter? I have never been able to clean any fuel filter.

Hey, you made me laugh, well the actual filter have been installed in the car for 2 months, I guess I can remove some dirt squeezing the diesel that is into the filter. after I removed it from the car. For your comments, I think you feel this procedure didn't going to resolve the problem. Well in any case I have a new one that gonna be installed in case you're right. I'll let you know. Ahhh other thing that I'm complaining, isn't more easy to install an external pump of 3 - 7 pounds in the gas line, that remove the tank to install the Cummins??, Just a question....
Regards
Luis.

If the fuel filter change does not fix it perhaps it could be the boost pressure solenoid??

I can already tell you what the outcome will be of trying to "clean" a dirty filter, but who knows, you might find a process that works. To answer your other question, yes, it is easier to install a lift pump under the frame than doing an intank installation, cheaper too.

Check your intercooler manifold hose, these things blow a ton of oil and it eats rubber. Thats my current problem. Accompanied by a loud blowing noise.

Good off idle as RPMs climb noise gets loader and power less.

Luis, you need to update your sig line so that everyone can see that you have custom CAC tubes. Also, can you post the phone # or other info to the place that did your custom hoses?
