My wife and kids were in an accident this morning in the CRD with a full size truck 1500). Was almost a broadside except he hit them (he ran the light at 60-70mph) in the driver's rear quarter and totally broke the wheel off clean off, the truck spun, then rolled once and flipped onto it side into the signal control box - through it and came to rest on the top of a dirt knob. My 2 and 4 year olds are prefectly fine (nothing wrong) THANK God for good child car seats installed properly and the JEEP! My wife was a little less fortunate with a wrist fracture (5 places and dislocated) and some bruised up knees but when you get a look at the truck pictures I will send for you will absolutely be amazed anyone got out of it alive let alone in the shape they were. I showed up before the EMT and couldn't recognize the truck because I was looking at the belly of it and the wheel broke off - then saw the rear spare tire on the back and about freaked. Enough of the personal stuff...... I am so grateful for the Jeep and one of the reasons I bought it was how strong they are. The truck is obviously totaled so there will be some diesel parts available soon. Tighten up the belts fellas! The guy that hit them just left without any attention but they have the truck. I just bought the diesel decal stickers for the rear window that I will keep for some sick reason.........thanks for sending those so fast Darby. -- Take Care because you just never know. I think I want a Commander now but they don't sell a CRD here yet do they.

Glad to hear your kids are ok and your wife will be ok, vehicles can be replaced, people can't.

Would you consider doing a buyback on it so one of us diesel swappers can put the drivetrain into another Jeep?
(please say yes 8) )

If you don't want to keep it I am sure one of us would be willing to put forth the cash for the buy back price.....you should at least ask what the buy-back is.

So glad everyone is ok or mostly ok. Just makes me sick to think about responding to a wreck with my wife, baby, and 2 yr old in it.

1) glad everyone (not responsible) will be OK.
2) hope the guy in the pickup needs traction.
3) I thought it would take longer for these vehicles to become more valuable as parts than as trucks...

Know the feeling friend - 3 months ago a gent in a Ford Explorer t-boned my '87 MB diesel sedan at around 55 mph in the rear passenger door - spun it around 180 and threw it better than 30 feet, clear of the road up into a parking lot.

And I know about being thankful for the "tank" part as well - all I got was a set of cracked ribs from being thrown against the center armrest, and it still started up and was driveable to the wrecker afterwards.

No he didn't leave the scene. He left refusing medical treatment but he never even checked to see how anyone was. It sounds like its going to be a "he said, she said". I wish I had been there to see it but no matter what happens we are really fortunate. I took some close up pictures and we originally thought he clipped the rear quarter but what it looks like now is he hit the post between the front and rear doors dead center and then because of her direction of travel ripped the entire rear end and wheels off. I'll post some more pictures as soon as I can. I'll check into the buyback - first crash I have ever had to deal with so i didn;t understand but now basically as I undertand it woughly insurance would give me the value of the jeep and I then would buy the residual scrap value they put on it and then could sell it to one of you guys or part it out for many people? I am not parting it out so it would have to be a outright buy. I am no wrench guy and don't have the time to learn but I would hate to see it go to a scrap yard. I'll ask what the number is tomorrow. Thanks for all the comments I appreciate it.

having a wife and 2 year old little girl let me say how happy I am for you. I can't even imagine, really.

As for the CRD, tough little bugger isn't it? For the effort she deserves to get in the hands of somebody who puts her to good use.

Glad family is OK! You are not too far up the road from me. I used to travel up that way when the step-nightmare went to Mt. Union.

Hatchetman, my ex girlfriend from 2 decades ago went there as well. Must be in the water.

I'll talk to the Adjuster and see what's what with it and a possible buyback.

drudgery1971, I know you said that you are now considering a Commander. Something to consider for the future: You can always swap the European 3.0 diesel that comes factory in the Commander. The 3.0 averages 30.8 mpg on the highway in the Commander. This will be my next project once my JK project is completed. I now have a few sources for Jeep parts overseas. :D

Basically yes, once your insurance company settles with you, or while they are in the process of settling, ask if they will offer you a buyback, they might com back with something reasonible, like 2k for the buyback, at which point you would retain the vehicle and get 2k less for your writeoff check. You would then turn around and sell the vehicle to one of us.

Wow! I am so happy that your family made it out okay! These little tractors hold up amazingly well in accidents.
