Post subject:  Saw smoke from underneath the CRD

Ok, for a few weeks I've occasionally seen "smoke" wafting from the frontside of the KJ. I could see it when I'd come up to the stoplight at night or at a drivethrough for instance. It wasn't a lot of smoke...I thought it might be the exhaust blowing back toward the front of the Jeep.

Recently, we had a boost hose go out and so I upgraded to the Samcos. I thought that might be the problem. However, when I looked underneat the CRD last night, I saw some smoke/oil burning off from where the downpipe connects to the exhaust. It appeared as though it was leaking from exhaust connections and not from a leaky hose dripping onto the pipe. I also noticed a few drops of oil on the garage floor over the course of the week.

Is there a donut gasket there or could my turbo be leaky? Power is good. In fact, I've towed a trailer to/from Colorado a few times this year. We're at 63K miles and I'm wondering if I should take it to the dealer in case the turbo is about on it's last leg.

I have the SEGR and EHM.

I had the oil pressure line crack and leak to the turbo, I was towing a trailer and it made a mess. You have to get under the vehicle and look way up on the block and check the fitting to the metal line if there is oil on it. If so the metal line is cracked at the fitting. Also there is a couple of washers to the bango bolt where it connnects to the turbo.

GMCTD posting a comment about the EHM spotting the driveway and then he installed a Provent. He may have it posted in the Haystack of the tech section.

BTW: I have been trying to stay out of the dealer so they don't rape my ECM with another flash.
I read about a post f37 that is worse than f37.

Where does your EHM vent to?

Make sure your vent hose (EHM) isn't clogged somewhere. Given that you are in TX, stuff freezing isn't a problem, but maybe there's a kink of some sort impeding flow.

...now why...in the two instances where I've had my CCV blocked, one from installing a faulty plastic elbow (plastic flashing still inside) and one from my Saiko catch can being completely frozen (very cold last month), the restriction caused oil to blow out somewhere on the engine with most of it being on the bottom. I still haven't figured out where that came from. Some did find it's way out of the CCV/hose connection but very little. Oil was also getting into the exhaust and burning. There was evidence of oil droplets on the snow under the tailpipe from where it was blowing out. When sitting still and running, there was smoke coming from everywhere as well as the smell of burnt oil. It's like I was making a smoke screen to ward off mosquitos. Removing the source of the plug in my case stopped the leaking and burning of the oil.

...so just in case, make sure there isn't a "plug" from a kink or from some animal, like a muddobber for instance, doing you a favor by closing it off.

The EHM produces noticeable smoke for many. Especially at night. Especially in the cold since the smoke is largely water vapor.

+1 If you have an EHM it's likely that. I noticed smoke wafting forward after doing my EHM.
