Has anyone had the same problem? Here’s the story had an issue at around 90,000km my low coolant light came on, so had a look at the bottle level and it had dropped about an inch. So I top the thing up and a few weeks latter the same problem.

The KJ was due for its 100,000km service and its last service before the warranty was over, I had Jeep do a pressure test on it and said they found no problems. But once again a few weeks latter the coolant was down again. This has happened a few more times now so I take it down to the local radiator specialists and they also did a pressure test and again found no problems.

But they did notice something, that coolant has sprayed around on the front part of the engine and also noticed coolant on the ends of the fan, they think maybe a leak in the water pump or radiator and have told me to go back to Jeep and show them the spray marks.

Has anyone else had this problem? I have no hope of Jeep covering this under warranty now.

This truck can run hot at times especially under load and here in Aus it reaches temperature of 118 F so I don’t know if this has contributed to the problem.

Cheers

Luke

There has to be a seal where the water pump pulley is. Sounds like timing cover has to come off to check that.

Coolant systems and seals can be funky at times, leaks not showing themselves unless the system is not only at pressure, but also up to temp and the engine operating.

On this replacement '87 MB, I spent over a week fixing one problem after another on the cooling system. I finally got the system tight enough to where it would hold full pressure when the engine was operating and up to temp - only to discover that now the plastic end tanks on the original radiator are so old and porous that at full temp and pressure the coolant is actually weeping out thru the plastic. Guess that's why the PO had replaced the 20 psi radiator cap with one set for 13 psi.
