In the meantime, with much greater ballyhoo, Chrysler teams with GM to make big hybrid trucks. That's why Joe six pack really wants! Except that the announcement that the assembly plant is being closed comes out within an hour of the hybrid being released for public sale.

Now with even more publicity, we have ENVI! Electric vehicles will save the day....

I keep beating the diesel drum at the office, but I think they are coming for me. At least I'll know I'm right when I get tossed out on the sidewalk...

As some have read - my Liberty CRD is totaled and now I need some new wheels - diesel driven preferrably. I just found a 2007 Grand Cherokee Limited CRD with the Mercedes Benz 3.0 liter diesel and wondered if you guys had any experience of opinions wit that motor or the vehicle in general? Going to drive it tomorrow along with the gasser versions from 2008.

I absolutly love love love my GC diesel. I'm getting 23 MPG average and it is a real solid feeling vehicle. The only drawback is the oil. if you do the oil changes yourself you will have to order the oil, it is not available at any retail outlets at all. The cheapest I have found for a dealer to do it was $150.00, I can do it myself for around $90.00. Some dealers try and charge $250.00. If you are going to buy one it should be no more than 25-26K. If it is more than that they are trying to rip you off. I bought an 07 in Jan and it was 22K and had 12K miles. Good Luck!

what oil does it take? what are the specs? someone must offer something that will meet them.

It is an oil that is low ash. I think it has lower zinc and phosphorus in it to protect the particulate filter in the exhaust. The oil has to meet MB/Chryslers 229.51 spec and is not available in stores yet. Mobile 1 makes the oil but you have to order it online.

Better half agreed to purchase a 2008 Laredo GC Limited. It rocks. Bye-bye loosey goosey torque converter, 23 mpg driving like a famous Meat Loaf album, killer stereo, zero black puffs from tail end... Downsides, more electronics, rumored to be touchy emissions system.

Well......I bought the 2007 GC Limited CRD today - only 6000 miles on it!! Awesome so far. Totally loaded - full entertainment systems, back up camera, nav,and the best of all that Mercedes diesel engine. It was from the original diesel GC launch in 2007 and kept in Detroit owned by an executive of DC until they had a dealer auction last month from what I understand. The transmission is really smooth compared to the Liberty so far in 1 days driving. Sound is much quitier than the Liberty and the power is just perfect. List new was around 46+ and I picked it up for 27k (basically what I originally paid for my Liberty CRD new in 2005). I know some think that's too high but for that mileage and having every available option that I know if I think its fair. I don't want most of the gadget stuff in it but to be honest i searched forever and couldn't find another one withing 150 miles. They mentioned the oil changes concern and they gave me 89.99 flat rate oil changes in wirting as long as I own it. Man am I happy - So are the wife and kids (now they can watch DVDs in the back although I still haven;t told them its there - saving it for a LONG cross country trip. Sometimes good things come from bad situations. I still miss the Liberty CRD though.

And that pretty much sums up the series of events. It kills me that jeep wasn't able to push and advertise for the KJ CRD...... I remember being in a barns and nobel, or the like, in december of 2003 getting excited at the news about the liberty being offered in a diesel(after taking advantage of the free publicans to browse). I think that was the most publicity that was ever offered.
