Does any one recommend using a winter front for the crd kj, or would that be too restrictive for the air intake. In colder climates of course. Thanks. |

....and they do work. But so does cardboard and it is cheaper. Your temp gauge tells the truth, I have run my KJ at -29C (-20f) with out a cover, but that was for one day, not weeks on end like up in your neck of the woods. BTW: Are the tree huggers displaying, "Save the Pine Bark Beetle", bumper stickers yet? When they do, put a slogan on your Grill cover that says, "DIE PINE BARK BEETLE, DIE EH!" or a red circle with a red diagonal line that has a Pine Bark Beetle in the circle. To connect the dots, when the temps are cold enough to kill of Pine Bark Beetles, you will need the grill cover. |

Try the Fia cover with or without the pine bark beetles - http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=27110&highlight=fia |

I use the Fia blanket and it does not restrict the intake at all. It does appear to give some benefit during warm-up but it is hard to measure exactly. |

I find that highway driving in cold weather without the winter front kills the mpg. The viscous heater runs nonstop trying to keep coolant temp up. The viscous heater (depending on ambient temp) will run until the temp needle just tickles the wavy lines on the water temp symbol. I've noticed this in both my CRDs. The difference in engine tone and power is noticeable if you're paying attention when it turns off. |
