Ive read some of the posts for the provent, but what is wrong with the stock set up, Also does the oily recycled air going back into the intake really mess anything up? |

The oil in the intake air deteriorates the intercooler hoses, reduces the heat transfer in the intercooler, gums up the FCV, contaminates and coats the boost pressure sensor, fouls the egr valve, and combines with egr soot to plug the intake over the long term. Other than that, it doesn't do much harm. ![]() |

It really does wreak havoc with the cac/hoses/fcv and sensors That said some people don't think it's necessary to modify. I don't think anything but air belongs in my cac. So is it ok to leave it alone? yep your not going to explode. I think after cleaning your boost sensor one time you'll see why it needs to be changed. After you see that, imagine what your intercooler is full of. And I wonder how much cooler your air charge could be w/o all that crap in there. It's your jeep, don't do it because we do, do it because you want it. Look inside your cac hoses. Yeah. That does not belong there. |

Thanks for the feedback. With all the engine mods you've done have you any more engine issues or have they been cured. |

I bought this crd used, and i was only getting around 17 mpg, after i cleaned it up and did the orm, and ehm, things started getting better, I started seeing 20's then 22-26 pretty regularly, after i got the muffler i think i gained about 1 mpg, then when i gutted the cat, another mpg, but you know, it's light pedal acceleration was not holey anymore, i did not have to stomp on it to get it up to speed (except for the 40-55 mph hole /w od on) I cleaned out the fcv elbow and i think i got better performance, less black smoke etc and i was sitting at around 28 mph. Because i did not do everything at once things just got progressively better. I really think the ehm and orm, and then time (clearing out the cac) had alot to do with that. Between here and there i've had new fuel heads and fuel system big leak codes and whatnot, but i got anew head, and a aux pump (then i was getting ~28 mpg) Then i got the Inmotion tune. Then everything changed. I was like a bat out of hell. Really, it was amazing. I could accelerate all the way to 65 w/o crossing 2000 rpm. and my mpg went down ( i think because i play with it ) and i'm getting around 26-27 mpg (i've added skid plates and whatnot as well so who knows) The Inmotion tune is like having a different vehicle So now i have a lift and 32 inch rubber I don't know my mpg yet :P But i do know one thing, after i got my revs/mile set properly, everything changed (my speedo used to be like 5 mph slow, so i had better shift points) Anyway i went from 29 inchers to 32's and that's about a 200 rev difference (lower) But it also means that i cant hold 45 mph at 1700 rpm in fourth gear anymore (at 23 psi up hill). Now it's REALLY 52-55 mph and that's to fast for the corners and traffic So my mpg seems to have gone down. But i'm runing b100 atm and that's always a hit to mpg, so we'll see. The biggest + i think is the inmotion, but i don't know what that would be like w/o all of the other mods, you know? You may just end up blowing a lot of smoke. the biggest - has got to be heavier rubber, it's alot harder to stop quickly at lower speeds. That just makes it feel sluggish (it's not a sports car, i get it) I can still burn out no problem, i just dont want to, because big meats is $$. As far as off road goes, obviously the skid plates get you pretty far, and the recovery points get you out of the trouble you found, but the tires, make such a huge impact on traction (obviously) it's like night and day. And the lift gets better clearance and bigger tires and thus more clearance (IMHO the weak point of the liberty) The drive train is there, the power is there. The lift makes a good jeep a better jeep. Anyway, liberty's are cool cars, they are in the middle between serious offroad and good street manners. The crd cruises so nicely on the freeway, it's almost a shame to give some of that up to beat up the mud, but it's a choice I don't regret. I bought this crd because it was a crd. And then i learned that kj's are pretty cool. It's your jeep, you do what you want, and have fun. You don't have to get a lift, you know, they are capable w/o one. You don't have to get a new muffler. And keep in mind that most of us have been at this a while, so don't be in a hurry :). I plan to be in this vehicle a LONG time. sorry for the long post :P |

Might not be anything wrong with keeping it stock. I bought ours new and it now has almost 50K miles on it. After we found out the dipstick was mismarked, and started just filling it to 1/4 inch below the full mark, oil consumption stopped, and the sensor stayed clean. I haven't had any problems with the boost hoses either since replacing the original one. Overfilling with oil was the main culprit of all of my issues/concerns. Do what you want, but...... |

I'm getting close to 70k in my own rig and aside from doing the EHM for a couple of thousand miles a couple of years ago it has been sucking CCV vapors for all that time. The last few times that I have cleaned the MAP sensor it has had very little contaminant on it and in fact looked almost new. I attribute that to the rings finally seating as the engine gets broken in, thus greatly reducing the blowby. I had the intake CAC hose replaced by the dealer at 20k because of the oil sweating through and have had no problem since. My EGR has been disabled since the dealer replaced it at 20k as well. I would normally plug it in for one day every few months just to keep the mechanism moving freely, but last time I did it I got an EGR code, so apparently it has finally gotten stuck (time for a block off plate). I have seen no discernible increase in intake manifold temp since the rig was new, so I really don't think that the intercooler is impacted at all by the CCV vapors. |
