CAC hoses and reason to do EHM

After reading a lot of posts about the amount of oil pumped through the turbo and into the air intake system I became curious as to what mine might look like. Holy cow was that disgusting. I wasn' t able to get the larger hose on the intake side off but I can only assume how much is collected in the low point of the hose.

I can't tell you what mine looks like, but since my oil level has stabalized from not overfilling and breakin, my intake remains dry with stock components.

?????? If you don't know what it looks like, then how do you know it's dry?

I don't know what the CAC hose looks like since I haven't looked inside it. However, the sensor in the intake remains clean for the last 35000 miles.

So how much oil are you putting in it at every change? I've put 6.5 quarts, like the manual says. I only checked the dipstick after I had the dealer do the last in-warranty oil change and they forgot to put the crush washer on the drain bolt.

I could be wrong, but I think the manual says 6.4 qts. Again, could be wrong. That is what I put in mine. The 2006 dip sticks were mismarked and full is actually about 1/4 inch below the top mark. My oil level in the begining kept droping down to that 1/4 inch low mark and would stop in the beginning. It wasn't break in usage because it didn't continue on down. That told me I was overfilling it. Once I quit topping it off, the intake sensor started to stay clean, and the oil level stabilized. I keep checking it but there is nothing to clean off. If the dealer tightened your drain plug without the washer on it, there is a real chance he partially stripped your drain pan threads.

It's been talked about before - I don't remember seeing the TSB - I think most folks put in 6.5qts and noted the level.

I think there used to be a TSB floating around here. The dealers all seem to know about it. Mine just used a dremel and scratched a new line on mine.

It wasn't a TSB - just a service notice they sent out to the dealers from what oldnavy reported - which consisted of simply scratching a new mark on the dipstick.

Well, I went out and looked in the owners manual and it say 6.1L or....6.4 qts.

No, I didn't have that. But, doing the math, it figures to something like 6.05XXX liters so you are closer. My level seems to like the new mark on the stick. MAP isn't clogging up anymore, and no mystery of where did the oil go.

Okay so where is the new mark suppose to be on the dipstick, I fill with 6L

If you carefully measured the oil before putting it in, then that is your level. You can't go by the oil jugs though. Next time you are at Walmart or wherever you buy oil, line up several of the oil jugs. I have noticed it is more of a difference in the 1 gallon jugs. Some are filled differently by as much as 1 1/2 inches of oil.

No, you can line them up several at a time on the same surface, and see through the clear sight level strip on the back that they are not equal.

My owner's manual for 2006 says 6.4 U.S. quarts. Since I've been guesstimating 6.5 using the gallon jugs referenced by BVCRD, I think that would explain my recent CEL for Turbo underboost and EGR - too much oil.

Could be. I never had a CEL, but for some reason, my oil was fanishing down to a certain point on the dipstick. Then, once there, oil would stabilize. I'd just get a dedicated measuring cup and use that for peace of mind. The less than half a cup difference between the 6.3 and 6.4 oil fills wouldn't make that much difference in my mind. I think I was overfillinging by as much as 8 -10 ounces in the beginning.
