it's also the 2.0 Liter CRD - I think someone in the UK managed ~60mpg with it.
but not allowed on US - unless you do your own EPA certifications.

I'm not totally sure but as I recall that the compass uses a VW TDI engine

With the new powers the current administration have given the EPA we'll all need to wear catalyic converters on the back side of our fig leaves

Between the EPA and the down turn in the auto industry I think we're finally going to see the long predicted demise of the small diesel engines in the US

Yup. According to Wikipedia, (the greatest source for information ) it is the same 2.0 in the Passat. They must mean the B5 - the 2.0 in the current Jetta has the DPF and all other necessary diesel accoutrements for post-2006 emissions. Not sure what the Passat is available with elsewhere, because OF COURSE it is not available in the US with a diesel. Hehhhhhhhhhh

The VW 2.0L in the Compass, etc. is the pump dusse engine (unit injectors), both with and without DPF. All of the new VW engines are common rail - far superior engine to the PD.

Jury is still out on that superiority statement!

Most users prefers the PD engines because it delivers the power in one big lump (which excites the usual buyers :D)

The CR engine is however more fuel efficient, but most people over here has complained that the CR is also boring. Perhaps because they are used to the sound and accelerations accompanying the PD.
