has anyone heard or had experience with a pesky transmission overtemp sensor?

got a trouble code several weeks ago pointing to this. took it to a dealer who was able to clear the codes, but find no cause. apparently when this happens it sends the transmission into overheat mode which causes hard shifting. so, got it back, drove it another week, and it happened again - the light comes on and the hard shifting begins.

the dealer had to talk to people at chrysler on this. just thought other crd'ers might have better info if this is common.

many thanks.

Not that I know of, and I tow 3,000 lbs for the most of miles on mine. Maybe a simple trans service with filters change is in order for yours.

Have you checked the trans fluid level? Also it may help if you specify your location (U.S., abroad) and model year.

had the exact same thing happen with only 700kms on it. Turns out the tranny temp sensor wire was grounding out on the altenator mounting point. There was a really sharp point, almost like a burr that had worn through the insulation on the wire and would cause the tranny to go into limp mode. I think it was the orange and white wire, might be wrong it was almost three years ago!

The transmission temp sensor wire comes up with all the other transmission control wiring from the large transmission connector down on the driver's-side case, up and across behind the engine and over to the TCM on the passenger-side fender - the line pressure sensor wires come up from the passenger-side rear with the xfer case harness, thence to the
TCM

Check the t\f cooler for dirty\plugged with mud\debris - also check the to\fro steel cooler lines for crimped\crushed

Also might be time for a fluid'n'filter change, as suggested

Or, could just be a simple sensor failure - but check the other stuff as preventive maintenance
