So last week I put a couple of tubes of Dr Tranny friction modifier in the Mule. There was an immediate improvement in the TC clutch shudder and I thought, great.. maybe I'll get a few more miles out of the TC before I have to replace with a Suncoast.

Well yesterday I was reading one of the posts concerning the 7/70 warenty on the 05s, and it got me wondering what was covered by it. I check my owner's manual and low and behold, it covers the TC, and I still have coverage because I'm at just under 70000 miles. Somehow I had missed the fact that I was still under warranty.

Now getting back to the Dr Tranny. Every day it's gotten better and better, to the point that today I couldn't replicate the shudder at all on my way to the dealer. Oh crap I thought, now I'm not going to get a new TC because they wont be able to replicate the problem. Near the dealer is a big hill, so I figure what the heck, at least I'll try. The tech was in the passenger's seat with the scanner plugged in. I got one little shudder which he thought that he might have felt. Nothing showed on the scanner to confirm it though. He said that the Chrysler scanners can't read line pressure or even detect the speed input on the CRD transmissions. I would presume it it because of the unusual TCM we have.

Tomorrow I am getting a new TC and pump, with no deductible. Image

I learned a very interesting thing from the service manager today. He says that all recall items are covered forever under warranty. I asked about TSB items which are not "official" recalls. He said that it doesn't matter, they are all covered forever. So possibly we all have free torque converters and ball joints forever.

The moral of this story: don't put DR Tranny in your shushbox before trying to get warranty work. I am only able to get the work done because the tech was in a good mood.

Now, just remember to put in a couple more tubes of Dr Tranny AFTER the new TC and pump are installed - might be the last time you'll need a new TC, free or otherwise. :wink:

Well I have an 05 and I knew that I had the warranty but why should I want to deal with those guys evern with their new TC. I have never pushed my and with 20k I have two new TC and no pump. they said that the pump was not noisy. Well now I have the new pump and the suncoast TC.

Difference is the ball joints have 2 official recalls,your TC's only have a TSB.In theory your TC will be covered forever if it fails in 12months/12,000miles all the time.He's just trying to keep you and others coming back,when the district rep is around you can forget that TC being free if your out of warranty and there getting tighter with warranty,every one is.Even the shop I work at now has what they call lifetime brakes,now that's with limits like you must retain the OEM rims and OEM tire sizes or no more free brakes.

I kind of suspect that the shop is going to get a rude surprise when they turn in the TC replacement ticket as a TSB instead of as regular warranty work. But I''ll be long gone.

Think so? I doubt you will be "long gone" unless you aren't planning on having your CRD with you at the time. Especially now, but even in the past a dealer would have to get pre-approval of ANY warranty work or approval from whoever is picking up the fees. A TSB is just a non-government-instigated or non-emergency recall. They won't spend the coin to mail you a notice, but if you happen to show up at the dealer, they will tell you about it. Not telling you about it by mail saves them HUGE amounts of cash from people that either fix it themselves or never had the problem to begin with. But somebody has to pay, and if it's a warranty, it's pre-approval before a wrench is picked up. Same for TSB / recall work. And I'm VERY dubious about the claim that recall work is guaranteed forever. You really need to get that in writing on company letterhead. I agree with TJKJ (did I just say that??) about the 12/12 on dealer work, that is a standard thing in the industry, not just at dealers.

Since it mostly applies to '05's and most still have the 7/70,000 powertrain warranty bet that's why they listed it with a "F".

If that is the reason, then it's even LESS likely that corporate will agree to pay for anything they believe they have already done. MUCH cheaper to piss off a tiny group of customers than it is to pay out cash that would be better spent on "retention" payments.

This is the same kind of issue as with GM and the "sidesaddle" gas tanks on their larger trucks from the 80s. Using a gas tank outboard of the frame - not a good idea. They discovered this as soon as the first one had a real-world wreck and burned. Did they issue a recall to fix the obvious safety problem? Nope! Their MBA beancounters actually CALCULATED OUT the value of a human life in settlement costs for each possible accident, versus the higher costs of a large recall.

Cold sonsabishes. Chrysler is doing the same thing (but not with lives in this case), and so did Ford with the trunk-floor-is-gas-tank-roof design of the Mustangs and Crown Vic police cars. Except Ford actually got caught b/c cops died.

Oh, I'm sure that they have no legal obligation to replace any of the TCs replaced in the F-37. But since my particular dealer is under the impression that they do,perhaps it would be worth the effort of anyone else who wants to get a new TC, pump and cooler, if they have the shudder. Maybe if one dealer says no go to another just on the off chance.

Stealers are in bunker mode right now. They try to buy cars traded in for 20 cents on the dollar, sell worthless extended warranties (though, not all are worthless), mark up parts two or three times. Next they will be going into Nursing Homes and seek out Alzheimer Victims so they can sell them the dead stock sitting on their lots. I just hope the Bankers are smart enough to require a valid Drivers License for a car loan :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Bean counters do a very good job at what they are supposed to be doing. Finding ways to cut costs :cry: The problem as I see it is they seem to have the last word over the engineers when it comes to dicision making :wink:

So the problem is somwhere between the engineers and bean counters. Can you say MISMANAGEMENT :?:

Got it back Friday and the Shudder is still there about like when it was new. I'm going to put some more Dr Tranny in it and I hope to eliminate the shudder completely with the new TC.
