Post subject:  thinking about a bypass filter... or a chip

So, I've been thinking what I want to add next to add to the longevity and performance of the CRD. I'm torn between a BMK23-EA bypass filter from amsoil and a TS performance MP-8 tuner chip. A few questions on both for anyone in the audience that may have them:

- If I install the bypass near the factory location, how do I change filters without changing the oil? Is that dependent on having it mounted higher than the sump to allow gravity to help?

- What kind of real-world (mixed city/highway) mileage and efficiency do you see with the mp-8?

- Do either of them have any potential drawbacks? Other than the cost, both seem win-win.

Hi Dan,

I went with an easy bypass-filter solution:

http://www.microgreenfilter.com/

I'm sure it doesn't offer the same level of bypass filtration as a dedicated setup, but it's also a very easy install. :) The cost is quite reasonable, at less than $50 shipped for two. I planned to do some UOA (used oil analysis) in about 15k miles, but I've since sold the CRD to a buddy of mine. If the UOA indicates that an extended drain interval is allowable, the cost savings of the oil will actually save money over conventional filtration.

I'd buy this filter and use the money saved to buy a tune. :)
