Hi all, Apologies if I am posting to the wrong forum for this, but I wanted to shoot this out there. After having the driver-side turbo line blow out last week and paying a small fortune to get it replaced at the stealership, I talked to my neighbor about custom fabrication. My neighbor is a prominent member of the SRT-4 Club. The URL for his online company is here. He's willing to make custom-fitted stainless steel replacement tubing with silicon couplers for interested parties. If I can get 10+ people committed to the group buy, he will do this for $200USD + s/h. Knowing my neighbor, they will come with a warranty as well. He prides himself on quality. Would anyone be interested in this? We're in the process of making prototypes on my 2005 Limited over the next couple of weeks. Once made, I will post pictures for your review. Imagine, no more blowouts on your turbo lines! This is open to US and International KJ'ers. Please respond to this thread so I can give him a count of interested parties! Thanks! |

x4, since I have been shopping for Samcos and $200 + shipping would be considerably cheaper. You are talking about the CAC hoses, right? Or are you talking about the oil lines from engine to turbo? |

These are the boost hoses that go to the intercooler. I completely understand wanting to see product first. I will speak with him today. He's got my old driver's side line to start with, so I'll get him to start with that. Will post photos once I have 'em! |

Good heat sinks. If you put stainless hoses in would they not absorb heat from the engine and increase the temperature of the charged air thus reducing intercooler effectiveness? |

Interested yes! I would like to here more about "heat sinks" I'm at 118K and change still with OE hoses. Yes I run ORM better of 90% of the time. |

I got mine done, $165 bucks. I don't think $2000 is a sane price. Or do you mean 2000 for 10? |

Err... I said a set would cost $200 USD. Not sure where you got the $2000 from.  But yes, 10 sets would cost $2000.
The heat sink concern is definitely a valid one. I'll run it by him. I thought the lines were stainless steel, however I'm not the turbo expert and COULD be wrong about the materials. He's going to start working on the prototypes this week. |

If you got any data on a heat sink effect - I'd like to see it Stainless will have more thermal mass than hoses but it'll also transfer heat much better. so you could also make the argument that you're just extending the Intercooler - although I don't have any data supporting that. |

Highly unlikely, since The charge air is often 300* or more in high boost turbodiesels, which is why we need the intercooler. At the very least, the pre-intercooler hose will be loosing heat to the engine compartment. |

That sounds like a good idea to me then, I like the idea of cooling the charge air even more, and metal hoses can't degrade from oil contamination!
