I was wondering if it was normal that my crd is puffing black when cold and under hard acceleration. It doesn`t seem to burn any oil but fuel consumption is a bit high. Could it be the map sensor.

Thanks.

Do you still have the EGR valve functioning? Mine did that until I unplugged the MAF sensor, disabling the EGR - what is known on this forum as the "ORM", or Off Road Mod.

Also, are we talking about a pouf of black smoke, or enough to make people in houses nearby call the fire department?

Just a puff of black smoke. The engine is still stock, everything is still connected.

Make sure your air filter is clean and your map sensor is clean.

You should check the map sensor every 6k miles or so. I would be willing to bet your MAP sensor is dirty, when was the last time you cleaned it?

Here is a link to the thread about pulling and cleaning the MAP sensor. Make sure if you use brake parts cleaner on it, that it is chlorine-free.

Use a 4mm hex-head to unscrew it.
