I bought a Acctron 9180 scane tool and it does not pick up the CEL. I have been on vacation for a week now with the CEL on and it has not hampered the CRD at all. Any ideas?

Mine acts weird sometimes, as if the CEL has to be fresh for it to pick it up. Have you tried scanning immediately after driving a while, then shutting it off and turning the key immediately back to "On" (but not starting) then scanning? If mine has been off a while it will act as though there is no code.

Could also be a BCM or TCM code. Depending on the model, lots of scan tools (the cheaper ones usually) can only pull engine codes. ABS codes or transmission stuff might not be in the list of "generic OBDII" that they are required to comply with, but Congress never said that was the ONLY standard they had to use... So each manufacturer also uses their own flavors for extra stuff. Gotta get you back to the dealer somehow, right?

You could always post here to see if someone in your area has a VAG-COM (VW TDI Groups) or maybe the AutoEnginuity setup.

Actron only reads some codes on the CRD. I found a relatively cheap scanner that seems to read more codes, but I'm not sure it gets all of them. It's an Innova 3030.

Watch out, though, all Innovas are not built on the same platform and several of their models are not compatible with the CRD.

Well crud, I was afraid of the answers I got. I will have to stop by a dealer and see if they can scan it for me. It still runs just fine though. I had the same thing once in Germany but for the life of me I cannot remember what the code was. All the German paperwork is in VA right now.

By the way this mornings fishing on the surf was productive, many bonnet sharks up to 24" and some whiting for lunch. Took th ewife out for a few minutes in the local pond and scored 2 bream in 5 minutes.

Jinstall... Are you interested in possibly getting the AutoEnginuity for yourself? I have the basic that I would be willing to sell, and that can pull more codes than the generics can. I haven't used it since I bought the enhanced at the same time, so it is brand new. $180 shipped sound good?

I just had the CEL come on tonight and my mac $120 scanner cant pull it. Which scanner should I get that wont brake the bank but will still pull most codes? I would hate to have to go to the dealer every time a code pops up, thanks.
