Anyone seen this? http://www.audiusanews.com/newsrelease. ... 408&mid=83 Powertrain • TDI V6 engine joins V6 and V8 FSI direct injection gasoline engines to the U.S. Audi Q7 lineup • 3.0 TDI V6 clean diesel (50-state) specifications: o Common rail engine design for smooth and quiet operation, injection pressure up to 2,000 BAR / 29,001 psi = the weight of an SUV within the size of a fingernail. o Piezo injectors can be varied and optimized almost at will, reducing emissions, and acoustic benefits of the engine (especially at low engine speeds). o U.S. version: 225 hp / 406 lb-ft torque o Variable turbine geometry generates 37.7 lbs of boost (2.6 BAR), with its vanes powered by an electric servo motor to improve propulsive power at low speeds. o 0-60 mph in 8.5 seconds (USA estimated) o Compact four-valve engine design, only 17.3 inches (440 mm) in length and weighs only 498.2 lbs. o Engine block made from a high-strength vermicular graphite iron which weighs 15% less than traditional cast iron. o Quickstart heater plugs are adapted to extremely cold temperatures, heating up to 1800°F within 2 seconds of starting engine. o Range/Highway Fuel Economy: 600+miles / around 25 U.S. mpg o AdBlue tanks can be refilled under normal Audi U.S. maintenance cycles. o AdBlue tanks do not compromise the ability to carry a collapsible spare wheel (same as Audi Q7 gasoline models). • quattro® AWD – latest generation with asymmetric rear-biased torque split (40% front / 60% rear under nominal conditions) ![]() Doubt it will crawl up the same hills as the Jeep. |

Sorry, not going to buy anything with SCR or "emissions fluid". |

We've had the diesel Q7s in Australia for awhile now (at least a year). Never seen one off road or even on a dirt road. They are large lumps, seat eight, and are generally restricted to mall carparks and the urban poser environment. The engine (for all its claims for technological advancement, and its 3 litre displacement) only produces 6nm of torque more than the good old VM 2.8L in the KJ CRD auto (not to mention that the same VM engine in the Wrangler puts out 460nm fully 54nm more than the Audi). It seems like all the technology is directed at trying to make it sound like a petrol vehicle. |

Can't wait to see the kits being sold on eBay. That way the Greenie winees can save us all from the Boogie Man Gas Nitrous Oxide. But all humor aside, if there is a will there is a way to bypass, unless you are in a smog alert that never happens in most of the world. |

It seems like all the technology is directed at trying to make it sound like a petrol vehicle. It looks as if the torque is quoted in lb-ft (406) which is about 550nm. |

Well, I for one, like it. Most SUVs aren't ever driven off road. I wouldn't dream of taking anything that costs enough to require a car payment and drive it off road, no matter how capable it is. To me, SUVs are about space, comfort, a commanding view of the road, and most of all.....bulk. If you get hit, you want to be in the bigger car. You want to be the windshield....not the bug. Standing 6'5" tall, I find cars are cramped, hard to get in and out of, and don't tow my trailer worth a darn. I like my SUV, and it has nothing to do with off road or even 4WD (which mine isn't). Diesel, just like an on road SUV, makes good sense to me. Powerful, fuel efficient, and while I'm not a greenie I still care about the environment and if given the choice to drive something clean without making a sacrifice in power or hauling ability to do so, I'm all for it. It still baffles me as to why more car companies don't sell diesels. One drive in a VW TDI, or my Grand Cherokee CRD should be enough to convince anyone diesel is superior to gas. One of my favorite things to do is get someone in my CRD and hit the gas. Traction control kicking in, the engine wailing like a small block V8 as you're shoved back in your seat. Then I say, "Not bad for a little V6 diesel huh?". I typically get the same response, "This is a DIESEL???". They can't believe a diesel can be fast, efficient, and not blow out plumes of black smoke. |

I'm a huge fan of diesels. I bought mine new in 06. I wanted the power and fuel economy that they offered, plus the longevity as I don't have plans to get rid of her anytime soon. I think Audi/VW diesels are probably some of the best and if they use any of the technology they have learned from their Lemans racing diesels I'm ready to consider. I do use my Jeep off-road and need something capable. I'm the small % of people that use it for what they are advertised. I doubt that anyone buying an SUV over $30,000 really uses it for the "Sport" part. I have issues with the changing or recharging of that "Blue Tech" style fluid. Don't need pointless trips to the dealer to get sold a bag of goods. Also in agreeance with the "boogieman statement" that everyone is trying to over engineer to make the environment better. Just look at the long term issues we had with EGR valves and after thought parts that the manufacturer put on. |
