Post subject: | Fuel leakage during fueling - can dealers fix (CRD)? |
Hello, I just noticed a puddle of fuel on the ground and dripping down the driver's side rear of the fuel tank after filling up my 2006 CRD. I did not top it off after the first shutoff and this is the first time this has happened. I drove home a couple of miles and of course their is a growing mess to be cleaned up. What could the problem be? Would a Southern Callifornia Jeep Dealership be able to handle this? I ask because the Jeep is still under factory warranty, so I think not to do that myself. Thanks. That's happened once to me back in Jan, never since. I think it had more to do with the pump not stopping in time than it is a problem with the KJ. |

Hello JL Rockies, Thanks for the reply. I was standing there and I had the pump lever on hold on the lowest setting and it seemed to shut off normally. There was no spillage at the intake end of the filler pipe. One big concern is that if I try to hose off the mess underneath and on the fuel tank, that I will get water in to the fuel. Mitchell |

I second the pump malfunction. It has happened to me a few times (all at the same pump at the same station). Is this the first and only time it happened? Does it happen at other gas stations/pumps? Is it still leaking? |

I thought someone else on here had a problem where their vent hose for the tank came loose and caused a leak. Either that or the main hose came loose enough to leak. |

Could be, the vent pipe just clips onto the filler hose as I remember. |

Hello, Thank you all for the input. I took it to the dealer and they say that it was the breather cup for the fuel tank. I think it is that cup coming off of a tube from the tank that I have seen some pictures of on another post about the fuel tank. So, I'll see what happens at the next fill up. Mitchell |

Vent may be another cause, but slim chance. Besides, when is the last time you found a Rocket Scientist or other skilled person working in a gas station? I rest my case. |

Hello warp2diesel, Actually, here in Southern California the workers in the fueling stations are some of the most intelligent members of the society. They not only work there, they are the owners and know how to ride atop the system which represses most of us. Anyway, in this case, I am the un-genius who pumped the fuel. Although, I have no idea if the nozzle functions properly. I will definitely not use that particular nozzle again. It was the first time I had this problem and that same station is where I regularly get my fuel when in my neighborhood. Mitchell |
