 Post subject: Brake Upgrade (Power Slot?)

I have never been really happy with the OEM brakes and now that I am to the point that I need new brakes I am looking for an upgrade and plan on a front/rear job. I don't rock climb, but do use logging roads and trails.

A friend has suggested Power Slot rotors/Hawk pads. Has anyone had experience with these parts and/or can you suggest another aftermarket brake upgrade.

I can only speak for my Mustang, but I just went through a set of Hawk HP+ pads and was happy with them. Granted they lasted less than 1000 miles but that is because I use it for HPDEs. I just recently installed Hawk Ceramics on it for the street and am happy with them. I used to run slotted rotors on my cars. I liked them. Besides of venting gases away, they also keep the pads from glazing.

I just installed about 7 weeks ago a set of DBA Slotted rotors and EBC Yellow Stuff pads. They are not cheap but they work very well for my hard driving style. I would recomend them to anyone that can put down the money for them. I am 100% happy with them.

As for track car, I use Brembo Max rotors and Ferodo DS2500 pads and have been using the same for like 4 seasons. They hold up well and provide EXCELLENT braking and do not fade on HPDE on Hockenheimring and Nuerburgring.

I have slotted and dimpled EBC rotors and EBC Green Stuff pads front back. It stops way better than it did with the stock stuff. I don't race the vehicle, so they perform well enough to make me happy. When I ordered the rotors from Autoanything, I was looking for slotted only. Unfortunately, those were on back order. So I ended up going with the slotted and dimpled variety in order to get them in time (my dad in KY has a lift) to have them in installed. They seem to make a little more noise--not necessarily annoying, only hear it when the window is down--that sounds a little like air whooshing. Brake dust was substantially reduced after break-in.

I have the Powerslots front and rear and EBC green stuffs. It stops better. There is still room for improvement, but it is ok now. Stock was scary sometimes.

I'm also doing my research with new pads and rotors. The factory ones are ok, but there just has to be something better. I know a lot of the EBC stuff works great, but that's only when you get them up to the correct operating temperature. There stuff is racing made for the street. So you will get great performance once they are at optimal temperature.
I need something that stops better then stock and wears better then stock. I also need to be able to stop on a normal drive from home to the grocery store without worrying if I "pumped" up the brakes to bring up the temps.

powerslots and napa pads work the best for me. I have tried almost everything out there over the years.

I should get my EBC 3GD slotted and dimpled rotors with EBC 6000 greenstuff pads for my Jeep today (greenstuff 7000 are for larger trucks). I have had excellent luck with EBC equipment on several vehicles, and the EBC redstuff is by far my favorite pad that I have run on my BMW's. I run EBC USR slotted rotors and redstuff pads on my wifes BMW 540i sport, and they are awesome. They feel completely stock when cold, but when you warm them up, they have excellent bite, and really good modulation and feel. They have never faded even when autocrossing. I have run the greenstuff 6000 pads on several jeeps, and always saw a noticeable improvement in performance with much less dust. I do not really prefer powerslot rotors. I have some friends that have had premature warping issues with these rotors (may not be a problem with the rotors, perhaps break in or something else). I would have purchased the DBA rotors, but I wanted a matching front and rear set, so I went back to the EBC's.

BTW, not all EBC products are racing oriented. Any greenstuff pad will bite harder than stock when cold, redstuff feels about the same as factory when cold but they become much more responsive when they get hot, and yellowstuff used to be for the track only, but they now offer a yellowstuff compound that does not need a warmup cycle to work on the street.

DMG - I would concur on the EBC Yellows. Threw a set all around on my pickup to improve things with the larger tires and for towing. Quite an improvement over stock. :D

I just put in a set of Powerslot rotors and Adaptive One Ceramics (napa). Happy so far. I'll probably run with OEM gear on the rear brakes because they take far less stress compared with the front brakes and... well, powerslots and adaptive one's all around would be very expensive. I've got 73k (miles) on my rig now and my rear brakes are still in good condition.

DBA makes matching rears. If I had not just replaced the rears before I left Germany I would have them on the rear now. NOPI has them in stock and has the best prices that I have been able to find.

I couldnt find the slotted DBA rears anywhere at the time, but I am not regretfull about buying the EBC's. I was just going to try something different.

I just happen to stumble across them while searching for fronts. I like the current setup as it allows the rear to squat first, under normal braking. Still there is alot of nose dive when I haev to brake hard. I am hoping the new Koni's will make up some of this nose dive.

Found it. The best brakes for your money. If you want stopping power and 3 times the life of a normal rotor, this is the place.

They cryogenically freeze the parts. You can send them your rotors, but for the price you can get the slotted or cross drilled ones for about the same price.
I can go on and on about the benefits, but I'm sure you can make your own conclusions from the site.
