My wife was kind enough to drop my spare factory 2006 CRD key somewhere, never to be found again. Does anyone know if I can just get a copy cut locally or do I have order one from Jeep (is the key 'chipped' due to factory alarm system)??

Thanks for any advice.

Scott

the key is chipped, you have to have two keys to reprogram a key yourself. the dealer will want an arm and a leg. I got my key on ebay and had it reprogrammed at a local locksmith. can't remember for sure but a chipped valet key (NO BUTTONS) cost me ~7-10 bucks and the key with buttons was ~75bucks. Reprogramming cost me ~45 at the lock smith and I reprogrammed the third myself. I had two keys and lost one. bought two to replace it so I wouldn't have to pay for programming again. seems like my dealer wanted~200 for a programmed key, but your dealer may be cheaper.

I also got a valet type key on ebay. I think it cost about $ 12. It came with easy programming instructiions (you need to have the two other keys for the process to work) and then went to a lock smith who cut it for about $ 2.00. If I did not have both keys the locksmith would have charged about $ 50 to reprogram. The dealer wanted over $ 150 for a new fob and key.
One of my button fobs had a broken "ear" and could not longer be used on a key ring. I got an empty shell on ebay and simply put the electronics from my original key into the new shell and had the locksmith also cut that key too.
