Post subject:  Home made oil separator performance

I built my home made oil separator from 2" PVC pipe with coarse steel wool media. Photo shows the oil separator laying on its' side after draining out the oil accumulated after 8500 miles. 1200 miles before oil change, plus 7300 miles when I changed the oil and drained out the oil separator. Drain is on the photo right side, plastic cap over barbed fitting to hold oil.

Notice the 1 Tbs of clear water in the 6 Oz of oil. I allowed what I drained out to decant, no rust from the steel wool, oil must have soaked it enough.

Oil Separator back in place. Planned upgrades to oil separator, spring in hoses where they cross to prevent hose pinching, drain line back to oil pan. Engine should evaporate 1 Tbs of water per oil change.

Thought, placing a T in the CCV hose and connecting a Manometer woulds be a way to check crankcase pressure.

Looks great! I have a setup much the same only I use stainless steel pot scubbers and run it through a secondary filter. Over 10000miles on the setup and no oil going back into the turbo.

Effectiveness of the filter aside, I'm guessing the orientation makes a huge difference keeping oil out the intake (oil flows downhill, which used to be the turbo hose...)

Nice work.
