I know its 'other' than a KJ but it is a CRD. Wonder if its legal in California? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-Wra ... sQ5fTrucks |

But I would not hold my breath. Heck, you can own a Belt Fed Anti-Aircraft gun as long as it is not any bigger than 50BMG. |

I saw an older Wrangler on eBay a couple weeks ago that someone had dropped in a 5.9L Cummins. My wife told me that I couldn't have it. |

Someday when my liberty's body falls apart around the motor, maybe I'll be able to find one of them there Wranglers in need of an engine. |

If you want to shop overseas there are Wrangler CRDs available. They might be right hand drive but you could probably privately import them. http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/res ... tial&D=CRD |

http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/res ... tial&D=CRD Nope its basically impossible to privately import them. Hence why this is such a puzzle. Heck even importing LHD 05/06 KJ CRDs is basically impossible. You couldn't really even import an overseas market vehicle that is a clone of the US market. You basically have to prove compliance on everything. Hard thing to do. This is a puzzle for sure. |

I had a trip in one of those CRD Wranglers in Denmark once. Did a test drive of one with a manual and got invited out in some sandy/muddy hills when I went to watch the danish jeep club have fun. I liked it a lot. It's impossible to own one in Denmark because of taxation though |

I think the real question is how they got it on US soil with a valid title |

That would be the higher-powered 2.8 as well. I wonder if they would just sell the torque converter. . . . |

I've been looking for the wrangler 2.8's tc in various online jeep parts stores from Brit and Europe in general, and have not found any that list parts for the 2.8 wrangler. Most only seem to have 2.4 2.5 and 4.0 gassers |

Someone that works for Chrysler that got it a VIN and registered as a mule, I'd imagine. |

It already had a 17 digit vin when it was sold in Europe. I seriously doubt that was a test mule. |

Test vehicles aren't able to be sold to the general public. Also, test vehicles (generally) wear manufacturer's plates which limit when/when/how the vehicle can be used (i.e. for work only, not pleasure) in exchange for being only $20/3 year renewal. My guess is that the eBay ad was pulled because the vehicle can't be titled in the US since it doesn't meet safety/crash and emission standards. It would be interesting to call them up and get the real story on the vehicle. Also, who would want to own it here in the US when you can't even get an oil filter for it, let alone other parts when servicing is needed... |
