M1 on sale @ WallyWorld

Mobile 1(all weights) is on sale at Walmart for $22 a jug. For the mathematically challenged, that comes out to $17.60 a gallon, which is even cheaper than Rotella T synthetic M1 comes in 5 quart jugs). What sucks for me though, is that my local one was out of TD truck oil, so I had to get the 0-30 weight. It was the only other CF rated oil which I could find, other than than the 0-40 of which they only had 1 jug.

Over in this neck of the woods, they are only stocking the M1 TD truck oil in 4 qt containers for $22 regular price - no 5 qt jobs for that oil.

Both of my Wal-Marts have just about every type and weight of oil Mobil 1 makes and it is all on sale for $22 for the 5q jug.

My KJ was recently due for an oil change (three weeks ago), so I went to one of them looking for for Mobil 1 EP 5-30W. I noticed the sale and was excited, but they were out of what I needed. So, I stepped over to the other one and they had a good supply. I was pretty excited they other one was stocked.

Diesel oil is rated different then gasoline oil. For diesels you want the first letter to be a "C" and for gasoline it's "S". The latest diesel oil is "CI-4+" :lol:

So when buying oil make sure to get a diesel rated oil :wink:

Maybe you should check again. Every jug of M1 I have ever seen came in the 5 quart size. I find it hard to belive that the company would produce a special size container for North Dakota.

Just because an oil has the "latest" API rating, does not necessarily mean that it is better. Each successive letter classification has lower and lower amounts of ZDDP and Phosphorus, both of which are detrimental to DPFs and Selective reduction catalysts used in all us spec 2007 and later diesels. Ask the TDI PD guys about cam life in their engines when the latest oils are used. They are lucky to get 50K out of the cam before it is round. The same goes for older flat tappet engines.

Strange as it seems I have a jug of the diesel M1 in the garage right now and it's only 4 quarts. My local WM stopped carrying Rotella.

In Indiana I've seen that:

Walmart carries the 5 quart jugs of Mobil 1 usually for around $25-$26. Yep, currently they are $22.

Every single auto parts store in town sells a very similar looking 4 quart jug for about the same price or a dollar more. If you can't beat em, try to fool your customers!

My point was and is to get a DIESEL RATE OIL AS I STATED :wink:

Not about the chemical composition of different oils. As for the PD owners, VW spec'd a special oil for them :lol:

Mobil does of course make the 5 qt size, the Smallmart auto manager here refuses to stock it. Says he doesn't have enough shelf space. :roll:

If some walmarts carry the 4 quart it may cost less, I don't know. The autoparts stores around here though have it for slightly MORE than walmarts 5 quart jugs. It's like they figure you'll pay up to a dollar more since you're already there, and they are right. The problem is you get home and realize you bought a 4 quard jug...the difference between the two jugs is very small.

Just in case you were wondering and nobody asked, this is what the letter designation means. C = Compression ignition engines, and S = Spark ignition. This is why they have different SAE ratings.
