Here are my numbers on Shell Rotella 5W40 T6 on 1100 miles or 1750 Km. I had a short interval because i had my jeep for a short duration and was curious what is going on with the engine any leaks of coolant etc.... any ways here it is .....Zinc levels are impressive in this oil.

Thanks. As posted previously my T6 with 4000 miles showed Zinc at 1353. . . phosphorus 1102.

My next analysis was Amsoil (high zinc formula) at 1500 miles showed zinc at 1186. . . phosphorus 1233. (note only 1500 miles on this sample)

The spec sheet for the Amsoil shows Zinc 1378. . .phosphorus 1265. Somebody must have quality control issues. My local Amsoil dealer naturally thinks it's Blackstone :)

Here is the 9500 mile sample from CRD#2. Partway through this interval I found the turbo intake hose rotted out and torn. That explains the extra silicon found in the sample. Yet another advantage to EHM or Provent. This was run with Rotella T6 and a Mobil M1-301 filter. Wear metals, chiefly iron, were very low. Zinc is 1300ppm+ so I don't know why people were saying it's low in RT6. TBN is still good at 4.9.

Bottom line is that if you have EGR disabled and you're changing your oil every 6000mi, you're wasting time and money. For less than the price of 7qts and a filter you could get an analysis that would probably say the oil is good to go another 6000. Plus you would know if there was coolant in your oil or a torn intake hose. I think I'll stick with 10,000mi now that I did this one at 80,000. Makes it easy to remember.

I would like to see this thread stickied. Having a number of us do a regular UOA is he only way I can think of to track down the blown turbo's and worse that we see reported.

I can't get my mind around getting good UOA's and having a rod bearing fail. . . the two don't come together in my head.

I'm still experimenting with Amsoil CI-4 Plus. I'll keep you all posted.

Here's my most recent UOA. Shell Rotella T6. 14.7K miles on the oil, previous two samples were from the same fill.

I wonder why my aluminum values are so much higher than the others posted here recently. That can't be good!

Wear Metals
Aluminum: Pistons, bearings, cases (heads and block) Head of course on the CRD.

This is quoted from the 'how to read a UOA' sent with my first sample. Complete info is also listed earlier in this thread.

Look back, your iron is way high also. You think 14k miles is a little long to go between oil changes.

I don't think it is "way high," not when compared to the universal averages for this particular engine. According to what they told Srytrucker above, the averages are based on only 6,300 miles. You would expect the iron numbers to be directly proportional to mileage.

Here is my most recent sample, almost 20K miles on the same oil. Iron is still below the universal averages even though I have almost 3 times the miles, and significantly lower than with the 10K miles on the first sample. I would attribute the difference to soot in the oil, the first sample was pre-GDE tune with a conventional filter (AMSoil, I think); the Rotella was run with GDE and with the MicroGreen filters.

Hi all, first UOA from my newly acquired CRD. I had the PO pull some oil at 68k when he changed the oil (I would guess 5-6k on the oil, but he wasn't certain). Shell Rotella T6 5W/40 I also don't know whether he sampled the oil properly, but it is better than nothing. Let me know what you think, especially about the aluminum number:

your Al does seem high, as does mine. In our engines there really aren't many aluminum wear surfaces that I am aware of. The only ones that come to mind are pistons and the lifter holes in the head, and maybe oil pump parts. But it is possible that the cams ride direclty on the aluminum head...anybody? There is not hardly any movement of the lifters, so my guess is that it is mostly from the piston skirts.

I bought my Libby last September. I flushed, changed oil & filter. This was my first oil analysis on my Libby.

415 on the sodium... :( Looks like that white cloud when I start up after the vehicle has been sitting for a few days is coolant. I assume this indicates that the head gasket is leaking?
