ESP/BAS,Traction Control and ABS Lights

Ok so I am coming home from Sam's Club with my 5-gallon bucket of peanut butter and all three of these lights come on at the same time. They have stayed on even after turning off the Jeep and starting it back up. The only trouble or performance issue I have had is battery being dead due to lack of use. I do not have a scanner and hope that someone can shed some light on my new ESP/BAS, Traction Control, and ABS lights. It is a "06" stock CRD with 28,500 miles on it. Any knowledge about this combination of lights would be great because I have to drive 200 miles to Naples and back tomorrow with my family in the car.

It was a right rare wheel speed sensor. Brad Deradorff formerly of Sarasota Chrystler now at Ferkins Jeep got it fixed for me even though im 4 months out of warrenty.

very interesting..my wife jeep has had random light flashing..including these, but none stay on except for the security system light..if it comes on it stays on..we don't have the security package??

Had exact problem/ symptoms

Fix was the WIRING HARNESS involving the rear ABS rotor sensors.
Its the same harness folks were replacing with the gasser counterpart so they can install/operate the intank fuel lift pump.
I replaced with the diesel version but ran a cheater wire through the loom and t-connected to the correct fuel pump positive lead at the connector under the rear seat.
I left the cheater wire "in waiting" till I get a quality in line lift pump like a Kennedy purchased and finally installed.
Replacing the wire was not very hard once you find where everything is!

What part of the harness was bad? I've replaced the wheel sensors and the clock spring and I have still have the lights.

You can order this through MoparpartsAmerica.com but you need to call them as this part is not included on that "Easy Parts Find" format they use on their site.

Two things
---they will need your VIN
---and this part is exclusive to 06 Diesel model - the 05 uses a different set as there is a speed sensor at the rear end and accommodating wiring features are used

My cost was $50 plus shipping--there was a long turnaround time too (right at Chrysler's bankruptcy so warehouses were in limbo)

I never replaced my actual wheel sensors

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you did to fix your ABS/ESP etc light problem. Could you elaborate a little more. I have a CRD with all three lights, what harness do I need to purchase?

Check the right rear speed sensor wire just above the rear diff housing, it appears they did not leave enough slack (on 06 models) in the loom and it rubs on top of the housing, breaking or shorting the wires. I have seen several units with this problem. Scanned it throws a faulty right rear speed sensor code, but this is not the problem. R.

Update: I finally found the cause of my ABS/ESP problem. The green wire on my left rear ABS harness was broken (inside the insulation) about 2 inches before the connector that plugs into the wheel sensor...right in the area where the wires bend. The last 3-4 inches of the harness was wrapped in cloth tape (inside the zip loom). Makes me wonder if they tried to stiffen that area up due to previous flex breaks?

This is what I have so far............
ESP/BAS, Trac, and ABS lights are all on 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD
Part number from Chry.
06 Jeep Liberty SPEED SENSOR
Rear either side 52129178AC $13.35
Right front side 52128694AF $31.45
Left front side 52128695AF $31.45

Here are a few thing I found in the forum on this.
I have the same issue.

They say it also could be a possibly clock spring.

The clock spring is what the steering wheel angle sensor takes it's measurement from. If the spring is broke, the ECU can't tell when your wheel is turned or going straight. Missing that critical piece of info the ECU disables ABS, ESP and BAS for safety.

The Airbag light would be on also and the horn would not work either if the clock spring was broke.

They say most scanners will not tell you which speed sensor is bad and most dealers want around $70 to diagnose.

The ABS light will reset itself after you drive faster than a certain speed (I think its over 20mph) without an error signal to the ECU.

I've replaced three sensors so far (2 rear 1 left front. One came with the new wheel bearing hub when I replaced it.

How did you go about replacing the wire? Do you just cut it near the sensor and then splice it and then again on the other side? Did you use a better wire to ensure problem doesn't happen again?

I believe there is a plug just inside the engine bay where the wire passes through the wheel well. I broke both of mine trying to pull them from the Hubs when I installed my lift and I thought I remembered seeing the plugs.

Same problem. Was a corrupted VIN No.
Problem can be solved by having the engine modules flashed with firmware. Hard to diagnose. Easy to fix.
