Post subject:  MAF Cleaning

I got a P0101 yesterday. I've been hunting around trying to find advice on cleaning the MAF. Is it cleanable, or should I replace it if the code comes back?

Got to the local autoparts store and by MAF cleaner. Spray it. I haven't had to clean the CRD MAF, but have had to on my Mustang and the other half's Celica.

And stop using K&N oiled filters in a vehicle with a MAF.

Amsoil EAA Filters - There is no substitute.

Thanks RT, I wasn't aware of MAF cleaner. It worked fine and after clearing the code I have no CEL.

Thanks Oddball, I assume this is a general warning about K&N's. I'm not running one. I use WIX...the Amsoil filters are too pricey for me and I prefer a less expensive filter I can change with each oil change.

I'm at 68K now and this is the first MAF issue I've had. Hopefully it stays off for a while. From what I understand they eventually just wear out anyway from the cleaning cycles they go through. I think I'll pick up a spare.

That was a general warning however I was referring to air fliters. Buy one Amsoil EAA air filter and as long as you vacuum (clean) it occasionally you'll most likely never need to buy another filter. JJsKJ can confirm or set the record straight if need be.

Hold on a sec...how can he be getting a MAF code if, as his sig says, he's running with SEGR? The SEGR simulates the MAF input. Perhaps a problem with the mod? The actual sensor is no longer in use.

No No no no........ The SEGR eliminates the EGR. The MAF is still used to keep the computer happy. The computer still needs that input. The SEGR plays with the actual MAF voltage to the computer to make it think that the EGR is still polluting the intake air.
