| Post subject: | CRD Tire Wear |
I bought my crd 2 years ago with 19k miles. I soon noticed that the front tires had worn more on the inside. So I upped the pressure to 42psi and that helped but the wear still seems to be more than normal and I suspect the springs have sagged. Now at 43k I need to replace the Goodyears and don't want the same problem with new tires. I was thinking of trying a small clevis lift to see if it might help, has anyone else tried this? |

Check the alignment and rotate tires every oil change, 6250 miles. |

I have had the same problem for the past 6 months. I took it in for an alignment but the tech told me that I needed new ball joints and tie rod end. Because of time issues I hadn't gotten around to getting the replacements until a couple of weeks ago. So I was going to get the tie rod end replaced, and then, get the dealer to replace the ball joints under the recall warranty. When I brought it in the the shop for the tie rod end job, the tech (a different one this time) tells me that the ball joints are fine. I went out with him and the service manager to look at it, and yep, they were tight as new, no matter how much we pried on them. The tie rod end was within specs, but had a little bit of movement, so I had them replace it. The alignment however was WAY off. The only sign I had that the toe-in and camber was off, was some slight road wandering and the higher wear rate on the inner edges of my front tires. I think that it was knocked out last winter when my wife put it into a ditch backwards. |

Your OEM springs are sagging(normal for a any KJ) and having IFS that will throw off camber and toe.You really should get a alignment done at least once a year.I have the lifetime alignment from Firestone(of course since I work there) that normally runs about $140 and then for as long as you own the vehicle re-alignments are free as long as you own the vehicle at any Firestone in the country. |

Interesting. Will they do lifted vehicles? |

I have almost 60k on my set of Michelin LTX. I get free rotation/balance every 7k and pay for an alignment about once per year. The alignment tech always talks about the toe in (out?) needing the most adjustment, but I figure its his problem and he seems to be doing a good job as the tires are probably good through this winter and show only normal wear. |
