When I first bought my rig new I calculated mpg with every fill-up. Even then, it appeared that I was lucky to have a rig that averaged 22-25 mpg consistently. I do mostly highway driving. Through the miles, my mpg has been steadily increasing. I'm now at 125K miles and on a few recent 500+ mile trips I've averaged 32 mpg. Yes, I do have a EVIC but these results are hand calculations. I guess I'm reaping the benefits of a "broke-in" diesel. I get an additional 3-5 mpg whenever I get a tank of higher centane or even 5% biodiesel.

By the way, I have 75K miles on my Michelin Cross-Terrains and they have worn evenly and have enough tread to go many more miles. I run them at 40 psi and rotate every 10K. These tires have been excellent for highway driving and a little bit of off-roading.

I'm fanatic about changing the fluids and filters at recommended intervals. I keep the map sensor clean, bleed the air from the fuel weekly. Most driving is done with the cruise set at or below 2000 rpm, which is 68 mph for me.

I've owned 15 or so VW diesels and the ones that were pretty tired always gave me the best mileage :D
